It's been a while since I posted. Commissions are keeping me busy these days and worst of it is I can't post a lot of that work.
So here's my latest personal work, I worked on this in and out for a few weeks.
The main point was to practice some painting and photobashing. I used silhouettes for the people and painted the rest of them, and photobashed the whole citadel using photos of an abandoned town and then painted on top.

Here's a process animation so you can see how it was made. I start with black and white silhouettes (made using custom shapes in Photoshop) for pretty much everything, and I add to that.
One of the hardest things for this kind of artwork for me is to make sure all the elements are the correct size, especially the people! You can follow my struggle with that below. :D
I could have kept working on it for another week or so, just rendering detail and so on, but at some point I learned to decide when it's time to stop and go for the next one. I feel like unless I'm training rendering specifically, I learn more if I start and finish the whole process more times altogether.
