TGIF and let's celebrate with some singing sisters. No doubt about it, musical siblings have a connection that gives their music a special something. They are in sync, in tune, and family bound -- it's often a powerful combination.
This is a Friday #morgenseiten stream-of-consciousness post, and it was again sparked by a comment from @katharsisdrill. He mentioned he was watching clips of Larkin Poe, two sisters whom I've mentioned in a previous post. So I'm taking a break from my look at the music of the Peace & Love era to do this post about sisters -- it's been on my to-do list for quite a while.
Larkin Poe
These two sisters are extremely talented and versatile. Based in Nashville, both sisters are multi-instrumentalists and are steeped in the music of the South. They have the knack of preserving the Southern music tradition, yet making their own contribution, and delivering it with power and excitement. That gives them a wide appeal, and bodes well for their staying power.
I encourage you to check out their homepage and social media. Their YouTube channel is excellent, and I particularly enjoy their cover songs they do in their hotel room when they are on the road – which is most of the time. Here's an example of them doing a hotel verion (in the bathroom with better acoustics) and live version of the same song, it's a lot of fun – perfect Friday music.
Lennon & Maisy
These two sister are well known thanks to the TV series “Nashville.” Both of them have warm, soulful and emotive voices – even when they were children as the clip below demonstrates. Both are self taught and play several instruments. Born in Canada, they now live in Nashville. Check out their homepage.
MonaLisa Twins
Thanks to YouTube I happened upon these Austrian born sisters. They have a deep appreciation of the music of the 60s, and I'm quite taken with the guitar playing of the sister with the red hair, respect! It's not easy to pull off a good Beatles cover, especially live, so when I saw this I ended up spending a couple of hours checking out their videos and website.
