Saludos cordiales @roswelborges

Hello sports lovers!
In Cuba, as in many other countries, the end of summer vacation is approaching, and with it, the machinery of sports practice begins to gear up in the institutions that organize and schedule it at all levels.
Some of you may know that I am a sports psychologist and as such I work directly with athletes, coaches, managers, family members and related audiences, in my case, with five sports (Field Hockey, Modern Pentathlon, Football, Taek Won Do and Tennis) in all their categories and in the modalities that include both male and female sexes in order to contribute to the psychological control that allows to promote the performance potential in each athlete or team of athletes together with a multidisciplinary group of which, in my opinion, all those involved are part of, along with physiotherapists, doctors and other professionals on whom I rely depending on the specific need at any given time or situation.
One of the sports resuming its high-performance practice is tennis, and with it, we begin to evaluate the ability to find athletes through an event that simulates competitive modeling, which simultaneously becomes a stimulus for them and a tribute to the figure named after this friendly confrontation. Thus, the Hermis Aguiar in Memoriam Cup was born, paying tribute to a beloved and talented athlete and coach from the province where I live, who recently passed away in the United States.
At this World Cup, we had the opportunity to have our first encounter with athletes of various ages and with different personality and performance characteristics. Although I'm still relatively new to my work with these athletes, I've gradually gotten to know them all, which has allowed me to work with them, making small, progressive steps forward.
For any tennis connoisseur, it's no surprise that Cuba isn't a powerhouse in the sport, even within Central America, as it may have been in the 1980s when it enjoyed the most Davis Cup participation. However, it's common, as is the case internationally, for athletes to be truly competitive, something that, while positive a priori, can be a double-edged sword if not handled properly.
In these athletes, a product of the competitiveness they've developed since childhood, often encouraged by their families and close social circles, it's not uncommon to find difficulties or a lack of tools to deal with frustration tolerance, for example. When this occurs, it leads to a downward spiral that affects self-esteem and is reflected primarily in athletic performance, before impacting personal and social development, with subsequent repercussions for their own personality development.
With this in mind, I didn't want to miss the opportunity to work with them on-site to develop recognition of certain skills and elements that would allow them to better enjoy the competitive event and serve as a learning experience for the season that's about to restart.
It was an event that provided me with a wealth of information for my subsequent work with everyone. In addition to the matches, there were exchanges between sporting luminaries and promising young talents, educational talks, specific and general psychological interventions, and of course, a closing party after the final awards ceremony, where several retired coaches and athletes with outstanding athletic careers were also honored.
On the one hand, I was able to confirm the pressure parents exert on them, which requires me to fully address. Parents view tennis as everyone else does: an elite sport; and as elite, they expect their children's performance to perform without understanding that they are growing children, whose progress is surrounded by limitations that are often overlooked. On the other hand, I was able to gather a wealth of variables and information to delve into in my individualized work with each athlete.
But the most important thing is that the majority of fans were able to enjoy each match and each matchday, making it a truly lasting tribute (in fact, the goal is to make this Cup a national category).
And so, with complete enjoyment and returning the ball to the other side of the net, I sign off for now, inviting you to share your impressions and reminding you not to stop smiling. To all of you, a hug of light!
Thank you very much for your visit!
