Sunset at the top of Santa Clara. A pause to see my city differently [EN-ES]

Today I want you to join me on a unique journey. A journey accompanied by the magic of the sunset so you can discover, from the highest point in my city, Santa Cara, in central Cuba, how to enjoy a unique panoramic view of the city even under the cover of night.

We begin the tour by leaving home with the sun at our backs. We walk along the streets that lead us to La Loma del Capiro, that symbolic place that everyone will see as soon as they look up from most angles in the city. In just a few minutes, we approach its grounds, offering spectacular views both to the right and left of the road.

I put all my emphasis on arriving at the base of this hill at the precise time where we can receive that subtle light of the sun that caresses us at sunset.

The view is simply spectacular. The first thing you notice to the west is the Augusto César Sandino baseball stadium, with its light towers protecting the iconic grass field for fans of the national sport.

From this perspective, looking west, you might think the sun is trying to caress the city center with its last touches of light before settling back on the horizon.

In the face of the sublime, let us pause. It's inevitable to stop along the way to sigh and smile at the sun that embraces us.

After a break, we resume the climb to an altitude of approximately 176 m, which is the height of this natural feature, part of a group of three hills. This one, the best known and of historical value, is called Loma del Capiro. Adjacent to it are two twin peaks known as Dos Hermanas, whose heights are close to 185 and 188 meters approximately. I mention this approximate height because it must be taken into account that these hills are formed by lean, decomposing limestone rocks, and therefore it is logical that they undergo changes in their composition, especially considering that these hills have been used as calcium mines.

Continuing along the path, the monument that adorns the summit can now be seen with greater visibility. A sculptural work, carved by José Delarra in 1988, it represents the defense of the nation's skies and the union of different calibers of weapons used in the war fought in Santa Clara in late 1958.

As you may have noticed, at the beginning of this trip, I showed you images in small format so as not to overwhelm you as you read the post. But now, I think it's appropriate to leave each moment captured in frames in their original size so that you can, along with us, experience the magic of these views that make us sigh again and again.

Since this place is located relatively far from the residential center, the silence that surrounds it, the peace it transmits, the pleasant climate, its unique views and the energy conducive to sharing as a couple, as a family or simply alone to be in silence, in solitude, meditate, or rest from the whirlwind of daily life, one can coincide here with parents who bring their children to fly kites or show them the singular geography of the city, couples embraced in their romances where they palpitate in communion like someone flying on clouds, international tourists who delight in the simple and even, as you will see below, some other high-performance athletes performing high-impact exercises to achieve their optimal sports form.

Meanwhile, I feel like playing catch-the-sun among the streetlights, chasing the flow of its path as if it were a melody superimposed on a musical staff drawn in the sky...

Turning our gaze, like someone suspended south of the hill, we see an entire residential area that leads to the hospital zone and then invites us to imagine seeking to enter the Escambray Mountains, a mountainous region that treasures paradisiacal sites.

As we enjoy a new angle of view, allowing us to discern the northwestern area of ​​the provincial capital, the sun seems to want to continue its playful movement.

On the southeastern side of the summit, we found another father-son pair telling stories.

Try to imagine the wind on your faces, ruffling your hair, and feeling the call to explore those mountains that call to us from afar, and over which we'll all take a journey together at any moment.

Another moment I didn't want to miss was this one where an athlete converses with the summit, the sky, and the sun, as if evoking the legendary Rocky Balboa (I confess that I even imagined the background music; you'll surely know what I mean)...

It's a sublime moment where time stands still above the celestial sky. Even a young Dutch couple are mesmerized, unable to speak to each other. Who knows, maybe they do it so as not to frighten the sun and pay it all the respect it deserves...

Even a little girl pauses her conversation with her family and places her hands on her chest to prevent her heart from soaring into the distance...

Synchronicity was present. A couple of lovers spontaneously acted out that kiss that multiplies in every hemisphere, at every latitude, at every point on Earth, between the sun and that line that warns us that night will soon cover us with its blanket...

And as chance would have it, this visit coincides with one of those rare moments when electricity is available for everyone, allowing us to briefly enjoy a sublime play of earthly lights to welcome the stars...

Those stars
that we will always leave free,
because that is how
they must perpetuate
themselves in time.

Hoy quiero me acompañen a un viaje diferente. Un viaje junto a la magia del ocaso para que descubran, desde el punto más alto de mi ciudad, Santa Cara, en el centro de Cuba, cómo disfrutar de una vista panorámica única del entorno citadino incluso bajo el manto de la noche.

Iniciamos el recorrido saliendo de casa con el sol a nuestras espaldas. Transitamos por las calles que nos llevan a La Loma del Capiro, ese lugar simbólico que todos verán apenas miren a lo alto desde la mayoría de los ángulos de toda la ciudad y en apenas minutos nos vamos acercando a sus predios con una vista espectacular, tanto a la derecha como a la izquierda del camino.

Puse todo énfasis en arribar a la base de esta loma en el horario preciso donde podamos recibir esa luz sutil del sol que nos acaricia en el ocaso.

La vista, simplemente espectacular. Lo primero que se aprecia hacia el oeste es el estadio de baseball Augusto César Sandino con sus torres lumínicas resguardando una grama icónica para los amantes del deporte nacional.

Desde esta perspectiva, en dirección oeste, pudiera pensarse que el sol pretende acariciar con sus últimos toques de luz al centro de la ciudad para luego despedirse en el horizonte.

Ante lo sublime, hagamos una pausa. Es inevitable hacer un alto en el camino para suspirar y dedicarle una sonrisa al astro rey que nos abraza.

Realizada la pausa, reiniciamos la subida hacia una altitud de 176 m que aproximadamente tiene este accidente natural que forma parte de un conjunto de tres lomas. Esta, la más conocida y de valor histórico, llamada Loma del Capiro. Contiguamente a ella, dos picos gemelos conocidos como Dos Hermanas y cuyas alturas se acercan a los 185 y 188 metros de altura aproximadamente. Menciono la cifra de la altura que poseen a modo aproximado porque hay que tener en cuenta son colinas formadas por rocas calizas magras, en descomposición, y por lo cual es lógico que sufra cambios en su composición, mucho más si valoramos que estas lomas han sido utilizadas como minas de extracción de calcio.

Continuando el camino, ya se aprecia con mejor visibilidad el monumento que viste la cima. Una obra escultórica, esculpida por José Delarra en 1988, que representa la defensa del cielo de la Patria y la unión de diferentes calibres de armas utilizadas por la batalla bélica que se libró en Santa Clara a finales de 1958.

Como han podido apreciar, al comienzo de este viaje, les mostré imágenes en formato pequeño para no agotarles mientras iban leyendo la publicación. Pero ahora, considero apropiado dejar cada instante capturado en fotogramas en su tamaño original para que así puedan, junto a nosotros, sentir la magia de estas vistas que nos hacen suspirar una y otra vez.

Comoquiera que este lugar está ubicado relativamente distante del centro residencial, el silencio que le envuelve, la paz que transmite, el clima agradable, sus vistas únicas y la energía propicia para compartir en pareja, en familia o simplemente solos para estar en silencio, en soledad, meditar, o descansar de la vorágine del día a día, uno puede coincidir acá con padres que traen a sus hijos a empinar papalotes o mostrarles la geografía singular de la ciudad, parejas abrazadas en sus romances donde palpitan en comunión como quien vuela sobre las nubes, turistas internacionales que se deleitan con lo simple e incluso, como verán a continuación, algún que otro atleta de alto rendimiento realizando ejercicios de alto impacto para lograr su óptima forma deportiva.

Mientras, se me antoja jugar a atrapar al sol entre las farolas y persigo el fluir de su trayecto como si fuera una melodía superpuesta en un pentagrama dibujado en el cielo...

Girando la vista, como quien se suspende al sur de la colina, vemos toda un área residencial que lleva hacia la zona hospitalaria y luego nos invita a imaginarnos buscando adentrarnos en las montañas del Escambray, zona montañosa que atesora sitios paradisíacos.

Mientras disfrutamos de un nuevo ángulo de visión, para discernir el área noroeste de la capital provincial, el sol parece desear proseguir con su lúdico movimiento.

En la parte sureste de la cima, encontramos a otra pareja de padre e hijo contándose historias.

Intenten imaginar acá el viento en sus rostros, despeinándoles a ustedes y sintiendo el llamado a explorar esas montañas que a lo lejos nos llaman, y sobre las cuales en cualquier momento haremos un viaje todos juntos.

Otro instante que no quise dejar escapar fue este donde un atleta dialoga con la cima, el cielo y el sol cual si nos evocara al mítico Rocky Balboa (les confieso que llegué a imaginar la música de fondo, sabrán a qué me refiero seguramente)...

Es que resulta un momento sublime donde el tiempo se suspende sobre lo celeste. Incluso una pareja de jóvenes holandeses quedan hipnotizados sin hablar entre ellos. Quién sabe si lo hacen para no asustar al sol y hacerle toda reverencia como merece....

Hasta una niña hace pausa al diálogo que sostenía con su familia y pone sus manitas en el pecho para evitar que su corazón vuele al horizonte...

La sincronía se hizo presente. Una pareja de enamorados representaron espontáneamente ese beso que se multiplica en cada hemisferio, en cada latitud, en cada punto de la tierra, entre el sol y el esa línea que nos avisa que muy pronto nos cubrirá la noche con su manto...

Y quiso lo causal, que en esta visita coincida uno de esos raros minutos en que la electricidad existe para todos y así podamos deleitarnos brevemente de un excelso juego de luces terrenales para darle la bienvenida a las estrellas...

Esas estrellas
que siempre dejaremos libres,
porque así
han de perpetuarse
en el tiempo.
