Cuando tenía 18 años de edad ingresé a la universidad de oriente (UDO) considerada la mejor universidad del oriente del país, el ingreso a la UDO fue un cambio radical a mí vida, no solo por el hecho de que estaba lejos de mí casa, de mí familia y seres queridos, sino también que tenía que encontrar la manera de establecer un equilibrio entre mí vida estudiantil, ajedrecistica y aprender a ser totalmente independiente. El primer semestre del 2014 fue horrible, el proceso del cambio y adaptarme me costó mucho, cuando culminé mí primer semestre en ingeniería mecánica recordé lo qué muchos me decían:
-No vas a poder seguir con el ajedrez cuando estés en la universidad.
Mientras recordaba esas palabras, solo pensaba en cómo podía encontrar un equilibrio entre mis estudios y el ajedrez, sentía que la rebeldía y mí amor por el deporte ciencia estaban ahí esperando pacientemente por mí, cuando empecé a cursar el segundo semestre de ingeniería mecánica la situación era otra, ya conocía más de mí casa de estudios, entendía los horarios y comprendí que si iba a pasar todo el día en la UDO desde las 7am hasta las 5pm tendría que llevarme mí ajedrez a la universidad conmigo.
En la universidad conocía a mis amigos del ajedrez, con los cuales desarrolle amistad y quienes me dieron tips y ayudas para mantener ese equilibrio estudios-ajedrez, para finales del 2014 me llaman de la dirección de deportes de la UDO donde me dicen que estoy en el equipo de la universidad para jugar los JUVINES (Juegos Venezolanos de Instituciones de Educación Superior), me sorprendió mucho ante la noticia pero lo que yo ignoraba es que el presidente de la asociación del estado Anzoátegui era el entrenador de la UDO.
El entrenador me explicó que los JUVINES era como los nacionales solo que a nivel universitario y que la UDO tiene una gran trayectoria, sin embargo, en el equipo femenino no han tenido mucho éxito, las medallas estaban aseguradas por el equipo masculino porque en el femenino no habían jugadoras de ajedrez, y el entrenador esperaba que conmigo se pudiera cambiar la historia del ajedrez femenino en la UDO.
JUVINES 2015
Para finales del mes de febrero viajamos al estado de Barinas a representar a la UDO núcleo Anzoátegui, en está ocasión me explicaron que las universidades iban a jugar en un nuevo formato, que en años anteriores todos los núcleos se unían y se formaba un solo equipo, por ejemplo, la UDO es una universidad autónoma que se encuentra en varios estados del oriente del país como lo son: Anzoátegui, Bolívar, Monagas, Nueva Esparta y Sucre, en estos 5 estados del oriente venezolano se encuentran núcleos o extensiones de la UDO.
En ediciones pasadas para ir a los juvines, las universidades que tenían diversos núcleos debían jugar unos internucleos para elegir a la selección en general que representaría a la universidad como tal, pero en esta edición del año 2015 cada universidad o mejor dicho cada núcleo jugaría de manera independiente, esto hizo que la UCV (Universidad central de Venezuela) y la ULA (Universidad de los Andes) no participaran en esta edición de los juvines.
Los juvines se desarrollaron sin inconvenientes, jugamos 3 torneos: clásico o estándar, rápido y blitz. Los torneos fueron agotadores, porque al terminar un torneo rápidamente empezaba el siguiente torneo y para mí fue muy maratónico. Pude ganar medalla de oro en mi tablero en la modalidad clásica y rápida, pero a pesar de jugar con otras 3 chicas en equipo, sentía que todo el peso y la presión caía sobre mis hombros porque las otras 3 chicas solo sabían mover las piezas y era difícil sacar a flote un equipo así, y aunado a eso tenía los exámenes finales encima, de hecho recuerdo que un profesor me reprobó una materia por una sola inasistencia, y para mí fue frustrante, decepcionante, incluso me molesté porque yo llevaba mi justificativo y estaba apoyada por la delegación de deportes pero el profesor no cedio y reprobé, me tocó ver la materia el siguiente semestre pero aprendí una gran lección.
En el año 2017, la realización de los juvines era una total incertidumbre, a principios del 2017 todo el sector universitario creía que los juvines no se harían por la situación sociopolítica del país, en cierto modo la situación era horrible, ese año a mediados de abril participé en el centroamericano universitario (pronto les contaré esa experiencia) pero todo fue muy cuesta arriba por la misma situación del país, sin embargo, algunos manteniamos la esperanza de que se pudieran hacer los juvines.
JUVINEU 2017
Para está edición los juvines cambiaron el nombre JUVINEU (Juegos Venezolanos de Institutos de Educación Universitaria) y volvieron al formato viejo, dónde los todos los núcleos o extensiones se unían y se volvían uno solo, por falta de tiempo no se hicieron los internucleos, en el caso de la UDO por el ajedrez cada núcleo eligió a sus dos mejores jugadores y se formo el equipo.
En está oportunidad me sentí muy respaldada por mí equipo, porque el equipo estaba conformado con jugadoras de ajedrez de trayectoria y fuerza ajedrecistica, y sentía la armonía de jugar en equipo y cabe destacar que en estos JUVINEU se realizaron en diciembre y ya habíamos culminado el semestre. En estos JUVINEU el equipo femenino logró salir de la sombra del equipo masculino y logramos igualar a los chicos en preseas, ambos equipos obtuvimos medallas de plata por equipo en clásico y rápido.
En está ocasión los torneos fueron más maratónicas y agotadores, recuerdo que jugamos el rápido y el individual en un solo día y terminamos alrededor de la 1am, después de todo ese maratón la compensación vino con mí medalla de oro en el torneo individual y gracias a esa mellada el equipo femenino sacó una medalla más que el masculino y logramos salir de la sombra que por años mantenía el equipo femenino de la UDO.
Para el 2019 se tenía previsto la realización de los JUVINEU, pero lamentablemente no se pudieron realizar por la situación sociopolítica en la que se encuentra Venezuela. Al día de hoy los últimos JUVINEU fueron en 2017, siento un poco de nostalgia al recordar y escribir estas líneas, porque este tipo de eventos no solo nos mantenía en sintonía con el ajedrez nacional sino también que nos daba la oportunidad de compartir con amigos del ajedrez y hacer amistades con personas de otros deportes, técnicamente era la fiesta deportiva a nivel universitario más grande e importante de Venezuela.

When I was 18 years old I entered the University of the East (UDO) considered the best university in the east of the country, entering the UDO was a radical change in my life, not only because I was away from home, my family and loved ones, but also that I had to find a way to establish a balance between my student life, chess and learn to be totally independent. The first semester of 2014 was horrible, the process of change and adapting cost me a lot, when I finished my first semester in mechanical engineering I remembered what many people told me:
-You will not be able to continue with chess when you are in college.
While I remembered those words, I only thought about how I could find a balance between my studies and chess, I felt that the rebellion and my love for the sport science were there waiting patiently for me, when I started to study the second semester of mechanical engineering the situation was different, I already knew more about my house of studies, I understood the schedules and I understood that if I was going to spend all day at UDO from 7am to 5pm I would have to take my chess to the university with me.
At the university I met my chess friends, with whom I developed friendship and who gave me tips and help to maintain that balance studies-chess, by the end of 2014 they call me from the sports department of the UDO where they tell me that I am in the university team to play the JUVINES (Venezuelan Games of Higher Education Institutions), I was very surprised at the news but what I ignored is that the president of the association of Anzoategui state was the coach of the UDO.
The coach explained to me that the JUVINES was like the nationals only at university level and that the UDO has a great trajectory, however, in the women's team they have not been very successful, the medals were assured by the men's team because in the women's team there were no female chess players, and the coach hoped that with me they could change the history of women's chess at the UDO.
JUVINES 2015
By the end of February we traveled to the state of Barinas to represent the UDO Anzoategui nucleus, on this occasion I explained that the universities were going to play in a new format, that in previous years all the nuclei were united and formed a single team, for example, the UDO is an autonomous university that is located in several eastern states of the country such as: Anzoategui, Bolivar, Monagas, Nueva Esparta and Sucre, in these 5 states of eastern Venezuela are nuclei or extensions of the UDO.
In past editions to go to the juvines, the universities that had different nuclei had to play some internucleos to choose the selection in general that would represent the university as such, but in this edition of 2015 each university or rather each nucleus would play independently, this made the UCV (Universidad Central de Venezuela) and ULA (Universidad de los Andes) did not participate in this edition of the juvines.
The juvines went smoothly, we played 3 tournaments: classic or standard, rapid and blitz. The tournaments were exhausting, because at the end of one tournament the next one started quickly and for me it was very marathon. I was able to win a gold medal in my board in the classic and rapid mode, but despite playing with 3 other girls in a team, I felt that all the weight and pressure fell on my shoulders because the other 3 girls only knew how to move the pieces and it was difficult to get a team like that afloat, and on top of that I had the final exams on top of me, in fact I remember that a teacher failed me a subject for a single non-attendance, and for me it was frustrating, disappointing, I even got upset because I had my justification and I was supported by the sports delegation but the teacher did not give in and I failed, I had to see the subject the next semester but I learned a great lesson.
In the year 2017, the realization of the juvines was a total uncertainty, at the beginning of 2017 the whole university sector believed that the juvines would not be done because of the socio-political situation of the country, in a way the situation was horrible, that year in mid-April I participated in the Central American university (soon I will tell you that experience) but everything was very uphill because of the same situation of the country, however, some kept the hope that the juvines could be done.
JUVINEU 2017
For this edition the juvines changed the name JUVINEU (Venezuelan Games of University Education Institutes) and returned to the old format, where all the nuclei or extensions were united and became one, due to lack of time the internucleos were not made, in the case of the UDO for chess each nucleus chose their two best players and formed the team.
In this opportunity I felt very supported by my team, because the team was formed with chess players of trajectory and chess strength, and I felt the harmony of playing as a team and it should be noted that in these JUVINEU were held in December and we had already completed the semester. In these JUVINEU the women's team managed to get out of the shadow of the men's team and we managed to equal the boys in medals, both teams won silver medals in classic and rapid.
This time the tournaments were more marathon and exhausting, I remember that we played the fast and individual in one day and we finished around 1am, after all that marathon the compensation came with my gold medal in the individual tournament and thanks to that notch the women's team got a medal more than the men and we managed to get out of the shadow that for years kept the women's team of the UDO.
For 2019 the JUVINEU was planned to be held, but unfortunately it could not be held due to the socio-political situation in Venezuela. As of today the last JUVINEU were in 2017, I feel a little nostalgic to remember and write these lines, because this type of event not only kept us in tune with the national chess but also gave us the opportunity to share with friends of chess and make friends with people from other sports, technically it was the biggest and most important sports party at university level in Venezuela.
