Today was the last day of one of our remarkable colleague cum friend at work. Although we had celebrated the farewell party on last Friday but today was something special and was a surprise party. It was a surprise party for me too because I was unaware of this arrangements and maybe I was counted in at the last moment. This is the first time we had such a farewell party in our office because usually we used to have a cake ceremony from the head of department on the last day or the department all alone go out to give a treat to that leaving person. But this time, it was something we have never seen before, two farewell parties in which other departments were involved. This is all because of the personal conduct and interactions he had with others.
There are various reasons of a person trying to get other better opportunities. I used to think that mainly its all about salary package but as time passes by and I experience different work environments and met different kinds of people, I came to know that its not all about salary package. Its more about the environment and people around you with whom you work as a team. However, money do play an important role but your mental health is more important than money. Expectations and mentality may differ but I think most of the people do want a happy and relaxed worklife with little bit of pressure and should have some activities to strengthen personalities and motivate team mates.
This remarkable colleague was a very nice guy and hard working. In quick time, he had made his image and personality worthy enough that people at work recognize and will remember him in good words. He was the part of our IT team and his achievements were appreciated by our CEO in shifting to our new office where his ideas and suggestions worked well for the company, instead of hiring and outsourcing some tasks, he initiated things with himself with the help of our IT head. Although he was new at that time but he was given the authority and responsibility and he fulfilled the expectations very well.
We became good friends and I used to spend most of my time in IT department. We always had difference of opinion, I don’t remember any discussion where we both had come to one conclusion and that’s the best part, still we value and appreciate each other’s opinion. the connection between us was the food, we love to eat together and share jokes. I like his discipline and the way he give respect to everyone, this is the best quality of a gentleman.
Today as it was his last day at work, he will be joining other company from tomorrow. Our pricing head had some plans to give him a treat, it was not a normal one, she herself cooked Chicken Handi or Karahi, I am still confused but whatever it was, it was delicious and very well cooked. We had lunch together with other colleagues and friends in cafeteria on the rooftop. Then there was a desert made by her mom, which was looking great in that clay pot/dish. We really had fun and enjoyed food together.
Work is the part of life where we spend half of our day so its like a family too. A person like him leaving us and will be joining some other family, it’s a mixed feeling, we are happy that he got a better opportunity but sad that he wont be working with us. Truth is we all move forward and in this phenomenon, we meet new people, make new friends but honestly speaking, it become hard to cop up and meet with old friends. I have experienced it and that’s so true. The fact is life is getting so tough and busy these days that we cannot make everyone happy. However, the memories are there to remember and these special moments do remind us of the time we had fun together and how we used to make fun of each other and discuss on useless topics and that’s the beauty of life. We all hugged him and wished him good luck for his career and said keep in touch.
