I thought of this as well, some sort of community driven curation. I'm sure there would be ways to game all of that.
NFTShowroom is a unique project because even though there is a builder and a team, those people are not really being compensated in a short term sense - they are more being compensated in how they can use the platform itself to sell NFTs, and for how NFTShowroom impacts the overall value of HIVE.
I suppose also getting some sort of first collectors opportunity is also somewhere in there.
The trouble with this structure is just like the trouble with HIVE.
You have a handful of people doing these jobs on basically a volunteer mutual benefit basis, and then you just have a bunch of people 'using' the platform.
If I just post my NFTs on the platform and don't market them, who exactly am I interested in selling those to?
- People who follow my HIVE blog, if I tell them about it?
- People who catch my twitter hashtag useage, if I make an announcement about it on twitter?
- People who are already collectors in the space - [Maybe there are like 5 right now that aren't the founding members]
- Other artists, who also want their NFTs to be bought.
And whose job is it to find more collectors?
And whose job is it to make artwork / projects that drive more collectors to see the platform and those projects as valuable?
And whose job is it to be ambassadors for the platform to actually build constructive collaborative relationships with other crpytoartists, or people from beyond in the Fiat creative world?
And why would any of those creative people from the Fiat world want to join up, if there are only 5 collectors?

So, all of these issues are not something to complain about and hope that other people fix -- Like some non-existant team, like the Marketing Department.
The Marketing Department, is a loose association of self-directed volunteers.
The artists themselves need to step up and make work that is worthy of collectors, and find ways to put their work in those collector's hands, and consequentially build up the market.
Just passively assuming that the market is going to mature on its own if people just keep posting on it, may be true, but if we adopt that point of view, what is going to happen is that the brunt of the work for addressing those questions above is going to fall onto the shoulders of specific individuals --

But if you're not making something outstanding, then how can you make something more impressive?
If you're not marketing your work, -- or if you don't understand what that means -- which I think a lot of people might need help with -- -- Who is it for? What are you creating for them? Why is it valueable to them? etc. -- Then how can you start to consider those things and integrate them into your projects?

I think what's happening here for me, in this post, is I'm realizing that I need to do a lot to help grow NFTShowroom, if I want it to be interesting and worth while as a platform - and I would prefer that this sense of responsibility be distributed amongst the other #HIVE artists, so our efforts can be more effective.
Probably the solution is to find a solution myself - and then share that with people to see if it works, or to facilitate some kind of challenge or series of challenges which incentivize people to consider these questions, and how they impact their own artwork and art businesses -- after finding out whether or not any approaches I've got to try are effective.
I guess that's sort of a lot of work, and I was hoping people would just all get on the same page, and think critically about NFTShowroom.

Where do the buyers come from?
Why is it worth buying?
What else is happening where cryptoart is actually being bought?
What does that artwork look like?
How does my artwork look different?
How does my artwork sell differently?
What can I try [that might not work] - to increase that collector value to my work?
What unique things does HIVE offer that I can leverage in order to make my work more compelling to people?

I don't know these answers. I haven't even unpacked them all myself.
RE: I tried to Onboard an artist I respect to Cryptoart, and found NFTShowroom was lacking.
