Chihuahuas are dog magnets that attract each other.
When one enters your life and after coming to terms with the embarrassment of walking him on a leash in public. You soon realise that chihuahuas like most dogs have no comprehension of their own size. They are fiercely loyal and protect their family from beetles, small mice, possibly frogs, and everything else they bark at until it goes away. Job well done.
You get to know your first chihuahua and fall in love.
Everything continues fine until:
After countless times leaving the house looking at him staring back at you from the back of the couch with sad eyes through the window breaking your heart, you sucumbe.
You sucumbe to the mental illness known as getting another chihuahua.
This one's a she dog. A bitch and a right bitch it turns out to be. She's company alright but bad company. Him and her both claim the right of being top dog and as such never hit it off the way you imagined.
However, now when you go out for an evening your comforted by two sets of eyes staring sadly back at you from that damned window. Must remember to pull the blind down.
Everything continues fine until:
You move house you move continents you pay almost full fare for your 4 legged children to accompany you on the plane.
After some time passes and the sound of chihuahuas yapping at anything that even looks like it may move doesn't register in your ears anymore like planes to people living under a flight path, and picking up poo is just part of daily chores, and changing the bed sheets unusually often due to liquid accidents are second nature, guess what?
It's time obviously to get another chihuahua.
You've sworn blindly to yourself two's enough, no more no freakin' way. But then your schooled. You're shown that your measly power of human thought is in no way equal in strength to the chihuahua magnet effect.
Minding your own business in steps a little stray dirty grey doggie with a cut paw and scab on her nose. She's washed and you discover she's white and her wounds are attended to. Wow you can't belive your luck she's another f*****g chihuahua.
You desperately start driving around the neighbourhood asking Mexicans if they've lost a dog or maybe would they like one.
And now you have three sets of sad eyes staring at you through the window whenever you're leaving the house. Maybe I could brick the window up?
The first one gets diabetes and requires insulin injections twice a day. Has he had his injection i can't remember is an ever present thought in your head. As 'they' have decided that they live on you bed but are too small to jump off it you find yourself picking them up at regular intervals to take them outside for weewee pooppoos and for feeding time at the zoo.
Now the philosophical bit.
When resenting carrying one of the little darlings out for weewee poopoos at 2:00am not long ago it struck me. Dog owners and all pet owners i guess are as God to their dogs. You love them., care for them, feed them, heal them, and teach them right from wrong.
I thought I ask God to look after myself and the family everyday and do I think he ever feels the slightest resentment?
How can I ask for something without not being willing to give the very same away?
End.
