In 2012 the Royal Canadian Mint issued a coin for the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the RMS Titanic on her maiden voyage.

She left Southampton on April 10, 1912, heading to New York. On April 14, at about 375 miles (600 km) south of Newfoundland, she hit an iceberg at 11:40 P.M., ship's time.

Of the estimated 2,224 passengers and crew aboard, more than 1,500 died, making it one of modern history's deadliest peacetime commercial marine disasters.

The coin is a 2012 $10 CAD weighting 15.87g (0.51oz) with 99.99% silver purity and Proof finish.

The reverse shows the ship, the iceberg and the place of the disaster.

The obverse shows the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, designed by Susanna Blunt.
