In modern era the Summer Olympic Games started in 1896 but it was in Finland 1952 that the first coin commemorating the Olympic Games was minted.
It was a 500 Markkaa coin 50% silver, 12g with a mintage of 586,000.
Three Games later Japan 1964 minted two coins about the Olympic Games. They were the 100 Yen 60% silver, 4.8g with a mintage of 80,000,000 and the 1000 Yen 92.5%, 20g with a mintage of 15,000,000.
It is interesting to notice that you find more silver in ten 100 Yen coins than in one 1000 Yen coin...

In 1968 Mexico produced only one coin, the 25 Pesos 72% silver, 22.5g with a mintage of 27,182,000.
The next Olympic Games were in Munich, Germany 1972. They minted six 10 Mark coins in four different places. That is a total of 24 "different" coins with a total mintage of 96,600,000. Each coin was 62.5% silver, 15.5g.
Now I have to ask your forgiveness because I "lost" my 24 coins collection. My stack is divided in several stacks that are in different places and I could not find where I put them...But I found a coin that I thought disappeared for years. I will show it at the end of the article.

Next is Montreal, Canada 1976.
RCM (Royal Canadian Mint) minted seven different series of four different coins each to commemorate the Olympic Games. Each series had two 5 Dollars 92.5% silver, 24.3g and two 10 Dollars 92,5% silver, 48.6g. I could not find the mintage of these coins. I know that was huge ! So huge that you can find them easily in Canada for a very small premium over spot. Look at the size of these coins and imagine a stack with hundreds of them, just a little above spot. I have them all and, as a bonus, no milkspot !
I selected to show only one of each.

Now the "found" coin. It is not a coin, it is a 1oz round. I bought it when I was playing the Olympic Bridge Championship, representing Brazil, in 1994 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I have fond memories about this city...
