The solitary and elusive Canadian Lynx (Lynx canadensis) lives in Canada's boreal forests from Newfoundland to the Yukon Territories.
With thick fur, proeminent cheek ruffs, a short, black tipped tail and oversize paws, it is perfectly adapted for winter.
In 2005 the Royal Canadian Mint issued these 99.99% silver proof coins, that were originally featured on the 1995 Platinum Coin Set.
The four coins weighted respectively 1oz, 1/2oz, 1/4oz and 1/10oz.
The 1oz coin ($5) features a female lynx with her kittens, while the 1/2oz coin ($4) shows us a solitary lynx prowling over rocky terrain.
The 1/4oz coin ($3) shows two lynx kittens exploring, while the 1/10oz coin ($2) features a stately profile of this magnificent animal.
