Night time and it is sleeping time. But the little one still has a lot of energy. For her, playtime isn't over yet. We came to an agreement. She will have plenty of time to play tomorrow if she will sleep tonight. She only said yes if I will tell her a story about a princess, a witch and a monster.
Quickly, I scanned my mental library if there are any stories about the three main characters she is requesting for. Going once, going twice... Looks like she's gonna get up again and play! Think fast!
Going thrice... A bright idea popped into my head. I can just make up an impromptu bedtime story. So here goes... She kept interrupting me but her suggestions were actually really good so I went along with it.
Once upon a time, there was a beautiful princess. She lived in a castle far, far away. (My little girl interrupted. Looks like the kiddo knows I'm just making the story up.) And in their kingdom, there lived a witch who was very jealous of the beautiful princess. She also wanted to live in the castle. And she magicked the princess away. (Looks like the kid already solved the witch's problem.) Everybody in the kingdom looked for the princes everywhere. They looked, and looked, and looked, and looked, but she was gone. (I was just trying to hypnotize her by repeating words in a sleepishly manner. Looks like it's not working.) The mom and dad looked for her. (The kid may be on to a plot!) They left the castle and went looking for their daughter, the princess.
They came by a forest. And in that forest was a big, scary monster! (Now, she's listening intently.) The mom and dad were scared, but they have to face the monster so they can find the princess. The mom talked to the big, scary monster.
Mister Monster, have you seen our little princess?
Roar! (I can't go on making up stories about scary monsters before bedtime. I got to make this less scary.)
I will only help yoh if you can help me
Said the monster in hos big roaring voice.
We will do anything. Anything at all just to find our little Princess.
The mom really wanted to see her daughter again.
I have a little bone stuck in my teeth.
(I am just a story teller here. My kid keeps adding details here and there. So let's just play along with it.)
You just want us to go inside your mouth so you cn eat us!
The dad said angrily.
Roar!
The monster said. He really do have a toothache. That's because he didn't brush his teeth, Nanay. (This is a teaching moment. Let's continue to play along with it.)
It's alright. I'll go in. You stay here and watch if he does anything bad at all.
The mom said to the dad. And so, the mom went inside the big scary monster's mouth. It was stinky! She looked around and it was dirty all over! (It got this gross, sorry.) And so the mom found the small bone stuck in the monster's teeth. She pulled it out amd threw it far, far away where it can never hurt anybody. (At this point, she's still not sleepy, so I continued on with the search of the lost princess.)
Thank you so much! Your little girl is in the...
(I can't believe I'm havit a storyteller's block in the middle of this story.)
Cave!
(Story saved by my daughter.)
She was brought there by the wicked witch and was put under a sleeping spell that can only be broken by true love's kiss.
The big scary monster said. Before the mom and dad left, they gave the Monster a big toothbrush and told him to always brush his teeth after eating and before going to sleep. In return, the big, scary monster gave the mom and dad a dragon that will bring them to their daughter.
They ride the dragon! (At last, we agreed om something in this story.) They found their daughter sleeping inside the cave. They tried to wake her up but she couldn't! Then they remembered that the princess can only be woken by true love's kiss.
(I don't want her thinking about Prince Charming just yet.) So the mom and dad kissed the little princess. The mom kissed her on the right cheek, and the dad kissed her on the left cheek. (I also am teaching her about not kissing on the lips.)
The princess woke up! Yay!
Mom? Dad? Where are we? What are we doing here?
They explained what had happened. And remembering about the witch, they hurried back into the castle.
When they got into the castle, the witch was already sitting on the Dad's chair!
Hihihihi
(My daughter did the witchy laugh.)
This is my chair now! This is my castle now. Hihihi!
*(Yes, I also did the witchy laugh.)
Stand down, witch! that chair is mine! You need to leave at once!
It made the witch sad. All she wanted was to have her own chair. Realizing this, the dad went out and brought a chair for the witch.
From now on, this will be your chair. You can stay here in the castle and help out with the chores but only if you promise to be kind and not take anything that's not yours.
This made the witch very happy. And from then on, the witch became kind to everyone and did not take anything that does not belong to her.
And they all lived happily ever after. The end.
A few minutes after the story ended, I saw her yawn. Looks like she was satisfied with how the story went. But before she went to sleep, she requested that tomorrow night, her bedtime story needs to be about unicorns. At least, I have one full day to prepare this time.
I honestly jad fun making up this story for my little kiddo. She has such an imagination, I sometimes can't keep up! But it makes all my days and nights super fun.
