It been months since covid 19 struck heavily on this side of the continent. And with many things that has happened so far, many have graced this deadly period to be a blessing in disguise - myself included. This does not mean we wish it well that it happend or for it happening again. Of course, we feel for the ones whose lives were lost and this is nothing to joke with. However, while we mourn the deaths of close to a million, we were yet faced with an unspeakable tragedy we could hardly bear.
Personally, due to the virus and lock down, I have been able to think and analyze life itself in a way I place the situation of the country, the world and the direction at which things are moving on these days - digital age, before I drafted out my decisions. And so far so good, it has been helpful. However, since the lock down has ease and people returning to their daily life activities, life have not been the same for majority of people in the country. While we were expecting fair understanding of the situation on ground by those in authorities and the government generally, we had seen the complete opposite. So far, it has played out like the virus was a means by which everyone in the country got rich while sitting inside the walls of their homes.
We saw the price of fuel rose significantly, which of course will affect many other prices as well. Almost everything began doubling or by quarter, increasing their prices. The worst of them all is the fact the Electricity Bill increased significantly by 3 times the normal price. If these was to be justified, of which I see no reason of, what about the churches, mosques and schools that had not opened for months due to the lock down but were given bills of these months three times the normal bill! To top it all, the power isn't at all steady. It had never been. As of now, it been three days we last had received power and we've been in blackout since then. Yet, it is almost inevitable - we must pay the bills! I guess we citizens have lost our voices.
Now, with higher rate of unemployment and job loss due to the virus, many have been feeding from hand to mouth while trying to stay alive. Of course, there are many people who made serious cash like 'big time' at the expense of the pandemic. But they are little to be compared to the opposite. And while many are faced with the testimonies of not having contacted the virus, it is sad but true to say they are hanging on by a thread.
