Hasbro's famous transformable toys are finally the stars of a video game. Transformers Devastation is a title full of frenzy and action that executes a great versatility in combat and where our skill at the controls is of the utmost importance, due to the demand it provides.
Although the plot is quite predictable, especially since it is a constant homage to the series that was broadcast before, it manages to keep our attention at all times, also conveying a sense of familiarity.
In short, the game boils down to the classic battle between Autobots and Decepticons. Megatron claims to have hidden something to cause chaos beneath the city, while deploying his entire army. Our purpose will be to bring down the group of villains so that world peace may reign.
Transformers Devastation, as its name suggests, is the center of explosions and destruction, in which, already in the first minutes, we have to battle against Devastator, a gigantic enemy. Far from being an arduous challenge, the brilliance of its handling makes us feel powerful, being the real raw material of this game its playable facet.
The virtue of Transformers Devastation lies in the fighting that takes place practically with the use of a pair of buttons, to make standard attacks. However, we are supported by a number of special moves, the execution of which will be crucial to winning every match.
An example is the avoidance movements. If we use them at the right time, our surroundings will slow down for a few seconds, giving us the perfect time to perform incredible combinations of attacks.
There is also the possibility of executing remote attacks or special moves. These types of strikes are necessary against the more powerful opponents, as they cause great damage to your life bar.
Each level hides a huge amount of hidden and secret collectables, (character models and sketches), which you can discover by knocking down enemy spies or destroying Decepticon flags.
In terms of graphics, it looks pretty good because of the artwork that focuses on recreating G1 as faithfully as possible.
The animations of the Transformers were handled with care, so we can enjoy a sensational job. By default, the scenarios are not very interactive and too simple, although that does not prevent us from being transported to a very beloved era.
Finally, Transformers Devastation offers us a soundtrack full of guitars that manages to synchronize with the action and raise our adrenaline, sound effects that were extracted directly from the series (for example, the noise of the robots as they transform) and an incredible dubbing by the legendary Peter Cullen, who is once again the voice of Optimus Prime.
Transformers Devastation will fascinate fans of Hasbro's legendary toys, thanks to the undisputed talent of Platinum Games, who proved that they are unrivalled when it comes to delivering frantic, uncomplicated action.
