Watching Poloniex recently I've noticed a coorelation with price decreases of SBD, subsequently followed by a decrease in the price of steem.

I began to think why would that happen, and realized it's mostly a flaw with the internal exchange at this moment. You can freely convert SBD to the equivalent dollars worth of steem but that doesn't remove sbd from circulation and sbd is immediately usable after receiving it from a post whereas SP is not.

However if SBD had a delay on when it could be withdrawn, and sold it would allow for a healthier economy within steemit.

Now before the shock kicks in, I don't mean a 2 year delay or even having all the SBD have a delay. I believe a 25% release of SBD immediately for the authors work, and then a release of the remaining 75% over the course of the next 3 months.

This allows a more real world aspect behind posts, in the sense the author isn't just in it for the money. They're in it to better the community, and readers - and sadly let's face it with the immediate payouts people are receiving it is drawing in more and more writers.

The question is, if that is the only reason writers are coming here is for that quick payout - what happens when the currency is so bizarrely devalued and no one is earning hundreds of dollars per post? Facebook and Reddit would then be the same as steemit, no money's earned and Facebook had your real life friends - Reddit has more people!
And then all the wonderful content people have shared here begins to slowly die.
