Filipinos used to say "Tabi-tabi po" when they are in other places to show respect to the unseen creatures living there. Specially when they pass by any bodies of water, "punso" or before entering a cave or an old house. It is there way of preventing from being a victim of the supernatural creatures. Old folks said that when you suddenly got sick but when you go to the doctor and said that everything is normal though you are feeling uncomfortable and sick, you are under the spell or power of those supernaturals. In that case, you need to consult an "albularyo" (witch doctor).
