I begin playing chess in high school (1969-1970) when everyone and all the books use descriptive chess notation. The phrase “Pawn to King Four” (P-K4) is permanently burn into my brain.

I have just recently in the past few years begun using algebraic notation because it’s now the standard for most. I even added the algebraic notation to my computer Chess Game because it the standard.
