Clerodendrum splendens, commonly called flaming glory bower is a show stopper for garden entrances and trellises being native to tropical western Africa. It is a twining, evergreen, woody-stemmed vine that typically grows to 10-12' long and covers the whole structure very fast. Elliptic to ovate leaves (to 7” long) are a lustrous dark green and guite showy in appearance. Salverform (slender tube with abruptly spreading corolla), bright red flowers bloom in dense terminal clusters (to 4-5" long). Flowers are attractive to butterflies, sunbirds and other insects. Flowers give a great contrast against the dark green leaves. Flowers remain on the plant for a longer period and bloom in bunches.
