Fresh news is out that Tottenham have done it and fired Mauricio Pochettino. This is just the surface of many mistakes going on at Tottenham. Chairman Daniel Levy is at the center of most of the big flaws going on in North London. It is Levy who made Poch go an entire summer with absolutely no signings whatsoever when he was on the cusp of challenging for the league title. It is Levy who cheated his players out of the money they honestly deserved and now faces the players wanting out because they know they had been cheated. For all you know, they had been lied to as well. Levy is there with Ed Woodward when it comes to unlikable chairmen. The mistakes the two are making are different but they are both very unlikable. Woodward doesn't know how to spend at all while Levy won't spend period. Woodward pays too much to players to the point they have become mercenaries while Levy doesn't pay anything, making players eventually revolt. He's just lucky that he's got some players like Kane and Winks who are so loyal to Tottenham.
Pochettino is the best thing that happened to Tottenham in decades. Gary Lineker has already spoken and said they will not replace him with someone better as that is impossible. It may not be impossible, but it would require crazy luck to replace him with someone who can accomplish what he has. Think about the Tottenham lineup and you realize Pochettino created all these players. All of them came to prominence under his tutelage. Names like Howe and Nagelsmann are already floating around. Howe has done some exciting stuff and would likely seem the most natural candidate. But would he leave Bournemouth mid-season? Nagelsmann certainly wouldn't leave Leipzig, who are in the Champions League as well and challenging for the Bundesliga in a season it appears possible to win it. Pochettino wasn't the problem and any of these candidates would inherit the same problem Pochettino had. He didn't suddenly go from Champions League final to this all because he lost his ability to coach. He was set up for disaster by his higher ups. One thing is for sure. His reputation shouldn't be hurt for this. Big clubs await. A big job is on the horizon for him. Just imagine if Poch suddenly could coach AND have a budget in the summer to work with. He'd likely be perfect at Real Madrid. He'd likely be perfect at Manchester United as well but the caveat there is he'd be working under another bad boss again. But he would have a budget. It would also be exciting if he gave coaching his country, along with one Lionel Messi, a shot. He may be the manager to make that team click. Very unlikely. But would be interesting.
Tottenham has turned into a mess and things will likely get worse before they get better. They entered the same discussion as the Manchester Clubs, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Arsenal because of Pochettino and what he was able to do. With a chairman unwilling to splash the cash, a team in disarray, and many of them in fact wanting out, things could unravel completely unfortunately. This could be the kind of bone headed decision that could get even Harry Kane to say "I love this club but I think it's time for a new challenge".
