I'm originally from the coast of Maine. My best travel tip is drive to Port Clyde, take a video of yourself running up to the Marshall Point Lighthouse like Forrest Gump, then catch the Ferry to Monhegan Island. Monhegan is an old artist colony going back to the 1800's, I think Jamie Wyeth is the current most notable torch holder. As soon as you get out there you see why so many artists have been so inspired to stay out there and paint, It's one of the most beautiful places I've been.
A runner up that doesn't require a boat ride is Pemaquid Point; just a beautiful spot there.
