# Steemit: Makes Me Smarter Everyday

I have only been on Steemit for about a week now, but I can already see the benefits over other popular mainstream platforms. The most noticeable benefit by far is that I am actually learning something new whenever I log in to Steemit. On Facebook I literally could feel my IQ diminishing with every check out my meal, look at my new car, and\ or the all too common ... I just went here and did this post.

Steemit is a celebration of ideas and rich content that people actually have an opinion on. Content so diverse and jam packed with ideas that it sparks reams of comments debating and challenging what is presented. Daily I am thoroughly entertained and intellectually challenged by the posts I find on it Steemit. It is my hope that as the platform becomes more mainstream that it maintains this "smartness" and avoids the pitfalls of other platforms

I think it all starts with the members having the belief and organic ability to shape it. I get the feeling that we are in control .... I never had that feeling on Facebook. On Facebook I had the feeling that Mark was just letting me play with his toys and it was a cookie cutter box that I was expected to follow the rules in.

Now I am not saying that Steemit is perfect and it may have its Wild West frontier feel (of anything goes) from time to time but even at my late stage of adoption I can't shake the feeling (and the responsibility that comes with it) that my curation choices along with the content I contribute is shaping the platform. Collectively we get to decide what has value and what does not. It is my hope that this new car smell (and feel) sticks around for the foreseeable future. I like it here and I thankful for my daily dose of thought provoking content.

Today for instance @knozaki2015 kept my taste buds alive with reviews of the best place to find riceballs in Hawaii. I am a lover of both riceballs and Hawaii so the post fit right in to my wheelhouse... although I am not sure of the spam riceball. Last time I was there I attempted spam and eggs at IHOP and was glad I did ...but it was too salty for my taste. Today I also discovered all about the tools humans have used and the effect of manufacturing those tools have on our brains (specifically language development) thanks to @gavvet . My Steemit daily shot of learning sometimes just confirms (or explains in great detail) what you somehow always knew but didn't have proof of. @timsaid 's Myth or Fact series of posts for instance answered the question Does Alcohol make you feel warmer? Tim frequently postsawesome content ...but it is the Myth or Fact series that keeps me coming back.

The above is only a small fraction of my learning today but I hope it is diverse enough to prove my original assumption that Steemit makes me smarter. Perhaps @timsaid will one day official prove it in a future Myth or Fact post for us but my gut already knows it to be true.
