I have been quiet for a while, and I do apologize. It was with good reason though, with a couple of business partners that you probably know better than me, I have been busy on two fronts. Firstly we are hosting and sponsoring the first Steem Saturday IN THE WORLD, and secondly we are taking Crypto and specifically Steem mainstream in Africa. You will see more about this soon, but right now, I would like to share a initial press release to social media with you. Steem Saturday is a free event on 29 October, at Indaba Hotel Fourways, Gauteng, that focus on Blockchain, Cryptocurrency and specifically Steem and SteemIT. Background
With much hype and much uncertainty around Cryptocurrencies, driven by success stories like Bitcoin, me and my partners at QuadroIT started researching the blockchain and cryptocurrency as a potential solution to many challenges we face in Africa. We believed that the technology lends itself to solving particular African and third world challenges, and that when you combine this with a credible cryptocurrency you can bridge many chasms that is currently holding Africa back.
During our search we discovered STEEM ... launched early in 2016, and made contact with one of the founders, and CEO, Ned Scott. In a press release from STEEM on 7 October, it was stated that "Steemit, the decentralized social network rewarding people for their posts and votes online, has reached the 100,000 user milestone in just its fifth month of operation. The popular platform, leveraging custom-made blockchain technology, has begun to redefine social media by building a living, breathing, growing social economy; a “small town” community where users are getting rewarded for their time, effort and creativity through digital points called Steem. Steemit has also leapt to half a million unique monthly visitors in September, and is now experiencing similar signs of growth to Facebook and Reddit in their early days: In October 2006, 16 months after Reddit was founded and acquired by Conde Nast, the company reported 2.1 million unique monthly visitors. Steemit reported 550,000 unique monthly visitors in less than a third of the time. In December 2004, Facebook recorded 1 million users in its first year. Steemit, after five months, has 100,000. "
Quadro saw this as an opportunity to engage the local community, and decided to arrange and be key sponsor of this event, with the idea that this will become an template for similar events all over the world.
For the launch of these events, we have arrange to get Ned to come and present the keynote, and have lined up a great group of speakers on both Steem, the crypto world and on real world challenges where this type of solution can be used to solve these.
