What Is Hive?
As I will be sharing this on Twitter, I figure I should begin by defining what Hive even is. Essentially, Hive is a blockchain that has numerous social media applications built on top of it. You are rewarded in Hive tokens and the token of whatever Dapp you are participating on for simply liking, writing and engaging with posts.
Why Hive?
Spending numerous hours a day on Hive platforms like Leo Finance, Proof of Brain, Cine, Haveyoubeenhere, 3Speak etc, it has become very obvious to me that Hive either has or could have a replacement for all of the social media apps I use.
Let's take a look at some of the many Dapps Hive offers. There are more, these are just a few that I am familiar with!
Leo Finance
This financial blogging platform has huge plans going forward. Not only do they plan on being a space for longform blogging about markets and cryptocurrency related news, but they also plan on launching a microblogging platform called #projectblank as of now.
This platform serves as a tokenized alternative to Twitter in its projected makeup.
However, this group is going beyond just being a social media replacement; they want to help you be your own banker. With products called Cub Finance and the eventual Leo Bridge, the Leo Finance team is looking to help people achieve financial freedom as they can use the DeFi protocols they have crafted to yield farm on the Binance Smart Chain.
Proof of Brain
This new tribe is seeking to be another hub of creativity that is rewarded by the community. The makeup is similar to that of Leo Finance, but the topics are a bit more widely varied. The token is shooting through the roof in price and is modeled in its tokenomics after Bitcoin.
Cine
This tribe is seeking to be a tokenized alternative to something like rottentomatoes. It offers a space for users to give reviews of movies or tv shows they've watched, supply ratings and takeaways and then actually get paid for doing it! Imagine being able to praise or complain about any film you've watched and there are hundreds of people waiting to interact with that content and generate value for you through their engagement with it!
Haveyoubeenhere
This tribe is a place to post travel photography. It could be seen as analogous to Instagram as you can share all of your great pictures from whatever trip you've taken. It's also a great spot to be inspired to take future trips as everyone puts a lot of work into their posts and shows off the beauty of where they traveled to.
3Speak
This tribe is a replacement for Youtube where all users are paid for their content, not just those bringing in millions of views. It works in the same way as the other tribes where people watch and engage with your video content and you generate tokenized value as a result.
Takeaways
There are a lot of great Dapps coming out on Hive seemingly every day. I believe we will see a ton of innovation in the coming months and the value of Hive will be shooting through the roof as a result of that.
Content on the Hive blockchain is immutable and completely free from censorship. You own your stake on the blockchain and you decide how you would like to engage with the community and where you will generate value.
