NO, I am not a US citizen. Having said that, I spent my whole day after the US election in front of various screens - tv, laptop and phone. It is after all an opportunity to see the process of selecting the next president of the lone global superpower. It is fascinating to see the process unfolding after the campaign that lasted for almost a year.
So, who do you think will be on the helm? Trump or Biden?
As of now, it seems we have to wait for another couple of days to know who won the election battle. But, one thing is pretty evident that the country is divided not only into political parties and ideologies but also seems like two different countries in urban and rural centers in issues they care about.
Who will win is important.But, it will not be important if both of them are able to bring the global stability we need. Like it or hate it, Trump won a legitimate election in 2016 with people's mandate. He was considered an outsider and he did things his way. They could be right or wrong and proper or not but the decision will be with voters.
Having said that, a bit more political and calm approach would have benefitted the global political order during Trump's first years in office. I am not sure what will happen to the global economy amidst the Corona virus pandemic in coming years. It is certain that the United States will need to take charge and work with others.
It seems the Wallstreet likes the situation we are in. They are the fear-mongers(馃ぁ) and will definitely think it is better for investors to be in a situation where both parties cannot do anything on their own. That gives the external third party to play in formulating policies. Investors like where they can play and create policies that favour them.
And, who do you think invested in those election campaigns? Somebody needs to make money irrespective of who the winner is.
