We headed off to see one of our oldest friends in the UK. I don't think Jamie knows the whereabouts of anyone from his old days in Brigton in the '90's, but this one we kept in touch with as he's just such a great guy and we get along so well. Jamie had spent a lot of time with him back then and they sure spent a lot of time reminscing about the good old days, pointing out clubs, pubs, houses and so on that they'd played at or partied at over the years.
I guess I felt this was worth writing about as his house is just so cute. Everything centres around a massive bookshelf full of literature, poetry, photography, art and cook books.
There was so much natural light in the place from skylights and a window that the rubber tree had grown absolutely ginarmous. The window looks out onto the docks and beyond that was the sea, where they swim in the summer. He took us for an intersting walk all along the docks and the seafront from his place whilst waiting for his partner to finish her online meetings. We agreed it was a pretty cool place to live!
For dinner David made us the most amazing mezze. I thought @carolynstahl might be inspired by this one - the falafel was a yemeni style dish that had cardomom in. I think it was the nicest falafel I ever had eaten! He even made his own pita bread, tzatziki and muhumra, which I hadn't eaten before - it's walnuts, peppers, chilli and a fwe other things and goodness me, I had so much of it as honestly, it was one of the yummiest things ever! Of course I had to photograph the recipes out of the book he used - one I wouldn't mind getting from Honey and Co.
Thing is, chickpeas don't agree with us, so we had stomach aches that night haha. We couldn't tell our hosts though so farted in secret. I'm sure I can adapt them to use white beans though.
They also had a delightful little labradoodle called Otis. He's a COVID dog like so many bought around 2020 so has his little anxieties, but he did confirm that I'd like some kind of poodle cross. He's very smart as well - our friend just has to salute him and he sits down!
We felt pretty inspired hanging out with our friend. He's such a creative and made me want to start some creative projects too. I was intrigued by his book binding project, as well as his pinhole photography. He doesn't do it for money, but for the sake of being creative and finding purpose, which I loved. I can't wait to hang out with him in the summer, but having a couple of days with him was great.
With Love,
