Hellllo hive gardeners!
Phew, that was a marathon! Thanks for your patience as I got around to commenting on all the posts left on the challenge post as a link so I could find them! I'm sure you have all loved seeing what's happening in all the Hive Gardens, but if you haven't had time, please read the following post and engage in the comments below.
As usual I think you are all winners and wish I could distribute extra rewards to all of you. Good to see that some people got some great upvotes just for writing a post - well done. Everyone loves a garden! Nature is so important to us, even more than ever, so I think people appreciate you sharing.
A quick reminder about Threads
Thanks to everyone that's jumped on Threads. We have a special request this challenge - post your garden content on Leo Threads! You can post your own link, say something about someone elses, post a photo from your garden, or ask a garden related question. Use the tag #hivegarden #gardenjournal and any other tags you like. And don't forget to vote in the weekly #authorpolls - your vote really helps with Hive Marketing!
I always love seeing the start of Spring in @nikolina's garden. Check out this abundant spinach!
@mrraggaj was nominated for the #authorpolls this week along with - both greenhouse posts, one with growing herbs in buckets, the other automated with arduino. Tres cool!
@thebigsweed was also nominated this week. As he says, other people are hit with drought, whilst they've been hit with a LOT of rain. Still, he makes do. Lots of planting going on after a lot of bed preparation. As long as he can keep the rabbits away, I'm sure there will be a lot of produce coming out of there soon! As you know
@farm-mom is the prettier other half of this Hive Garden power couple (sorry
@thebigsweed) and the thought of them gardening together jsut warms my heart. She's the flower lover and is concentrating on those and of course her favourite peas. I'm wondering what they DON'T grow in their garden!
@babetter's garden was incredible - beautiful flowers and lots of vegetables. She also shared a fertiliser recipe out of eggshells and ash. It's the kind of garden you just want to stand in and munch things!
@proto26 is struggling a bit with his garden - things not growing or dying, and everything seems too much. I think all us gardeners have those moments in our garden seasons and let's hope things pick up soon.
@leaky20 shared indoor orchids and succulents. Isn't the light coming through the window here pretty?
@umirais has been battling a heat wave in Indonesia. When plants get heat stressed, the bugs settle in. She uses traditional methods to rid the rambutans of leafhoppers, using burning banana leaves to smoke them out. She also has a lot of other vegetables growing in her garden, including turmeric, banana and durian.
In Finland, a garden at this time of year can look like this -
However, @brand028 enjoyed a visit to his brothers farm, and writes:
It's also amazing to be able to witness the strength of nature in so many ways, to how resilient it can be - after a sudden late spring snowstorm, the plants will stand up again and the bees will continue their hard work.
@owasco's garden is doing well and there is LOTS going on! Don't her raised beds look lovely and neat? As she says - holy cow! - there can be sooo much going on in our gardens it's hard to know where to start. But her passion for being self sufficient as she can in season with medicinal and edible plants really shines through.
Did you know you can share other people's gardens for the #gardenjournal challenge? @travoved enjoyed a visit to his friends garden, and if you saw that post you would have seen the very cute husky pup too!
@jensthoughts did for her post. I love that we get garden journals from all over the world, such as this one in the Phillipines.
@tahastories wrote about a school garden. Isn't this selfie lovely?
@buckaroobaby talks about choosing gardening battles. Sometimes you have to choose new methods or let some practices go in order to save your sanity - and your back!
@multifacetas told how she's gardened for years with VERY little water. And how the city is planting trees to reduce temperature. I never take our water supply for granted.
@plantstoplanks joined in this month with her garden. Some disappointments, but many positives. As a vegan, growing vegetables is uber important to her, so let's send her green vibes to get all her plants growing!
Sadly passionate gardener @luckylaica has been away in the city so she hasn't been able to tend her garden. Luckily her husband has been watering so the vegetables are growing, which is good news given how expensive vegetables are in most parts of hte world due to inflation.
And if there's one reason to grow vegetables, it's to batter and fry them, like @sanjeevm does with this malabar spinach.
@traisto and
@fotostef have been plant foraging, specifically for oregano, as they're away from their own herb growing land.
@nara61 wrote a lovely post, reflecting on the hard work that a garden needs, but how it's a place of relaxation too. She shared the dragonflies and butterflies that alight on her beautiful garden. Don't you love this photo of her?
Going to leave you with the words of @sofs-su - I think we can all agree with that.
Nothing is certain in life and the same kind if uncertainty that prevails in a gardener's life too. Just out of the blues so many of my okra plants died and all I am left with are my egg plants, spinach and tomatoes. If it is not the sun it's the pest, if we get rid of the pests it's the rain. Life is a constant battle nonetheless those who are in the battlefield have no time to feel bored. We are too caught up in the action of the present time to think about boredom. I did fight a losing battle in the vegetable garden so I can only journal about my succulent garden in my May #gardenjournal.
I hope you enjoyed the wrap up as much as I enjoyed doing it. If I don't get time to send the prizes over tonight I'll do it in the next few days. Sometimes it takes a lot longer than you can imagine, so I appreciate people doing the right thing and trying to get their post in early and dropping the link in challenge post comments. I'm sorry if I missed those that didn't drop in the comments but I just don't have time to go hunting - especially when my own garden needs tending to as well!
Much love and happy gardening!
