Oh, you know reading that as a kid, Boxer's demise was so heartbreaking for me. I've taught this at school for years and the students always liked it - a very good analogy for 14 year olds to understand totalatarianism. I taught 1984 (another impactful book from my teens) which was harder to get through to 16/17 year olds who found it lengthy and dark - and teaching it, I realised how repetitive it was, though the horror of it still stuck. No wonder people adopt the word 'orwellian' as a verb for authoritive government measures such as surveillance and censorship.
