From what I know, Ireland has one of the least favourable CGT. We paid none on our last house and even if we had rented out there's a six year rule, where you can rent it out for six years and still pay no CGT. There's big debates at the moment though as many argue for more equality as the younger gen can't even get on the housing market ladder at all.
