Behind every great bikepacker surely has to be a tolerant, helpful partner, right? I had organisational skills to bring to the table bike, a lot of resentment, grumpiness willingness to help my partner during his mid life crisis moment of madness fulfil his dream of going on the Hunt 1000 from Canberra to Melbourne across the high country - a gruelling trip that can take up to two weeks which only half the people who do, end up completing it.
We packed it, itemised everything (list below fyi) and weighed it - a total of 33 kg including six days of food (I'll post more to him for the half way point).
A week and a half before we leave for Canberra, we spent the weekend finishing off and testing the homemade dehydrated meals, which even if I do say so myself, were fucking delicious - a dal with couscous, a moroccan spiced lentil stew with moroccon spiced couscous, and a lentil stew with deb mashed potato, and some Deb mashed potato with a homemade dehyrdated onion and mushroom mix with powdered gravy, with some cheese triangles (shelf stable) in each pack and some olive oil for extra calories.
Honestly, we were super happy to have the test meals for dinner on Saturday night! I dont know why people don't like instant mash potato - it's creamy, comforting, and has the calories needed for a mission like this.
We were both feeling under the weather but it was satisfying to do, as we listened to Nick Cave's top ten favourite songs on Tidal here. We were particularly pleased to see Bill Callahan in there who we have always loved.
Plus he has Leonard Cohen on there and Bob Dylan. The only one I didn't like was the Bobby Womack one. Anyway that's all irrelvant - here's the pack list! We probably have forgotten to add a few last minute things but that's about the sum of it. Thoughts, @stortebeker ?
