Most days I hope that I won't get a call to go into work whilst at the same time wishing I had a days work - we need the cash, and at the same time, I need my mental health. I left my full time teaching job for a reason - I was totally burnt out. I'm only just getting into the rhythm of life again now, without worrying so much. There's days I find myself really enjoying just pottering at home without thinking about much at all, bar the project in front of me and the tunes I'm listening to. Music's a good friend, filling the silence when I'm feeling a little antsy or anxious, or just vibin' with the day. There's time for bird song and wind song, of course, but on Tuesdays especially I love to play tunes and think about what I might share for @ablaze's #threetunetuesday.
Random picture of daisies for the thumbnail. Image is mine.
This week I'm sharing Martha Tilston. I first discovered this English folk singer at a festival in Australia in 2008, but she evoked the England I'd just come from and so much of what she was singing really resonated with me. She's the daughter of singer-songwriter Steve Tilston and stepdaughter of Irish folk performer Maggie Boyle. Her album 'Bimbling' I often pick up and listen to.
This is the song I first heard at the concert and I immediately fell in love with her. If you aren't keen on live tracks listen to this version instead.
This one's a bit more upbeat, so if you love it, go listen to her song Tribal Kidz or Artifical.
I love this one - it's about that desire to check out and leave the earth because everything's fucked, but really we have to focus on the good in the world. It reminds me of a conversation I had with @galenkp and
@trucklife-family this week about focussing on the goodness instead of believing there's no hope for humanity.
Everybody's saying that there's no hope on earth,
We should build a spaceship and form the next rebirth,
Blast away into the blackness, in search of carbon worth,
One leaf of what we have here, already have here, have here...
And everybody's saying that time is running low, so
Meet you in the supermarket, panic-buy and then
Down below into the bunker, like rats in a cave,
I wanna stand on the edge of a cliff just to feel brave, just to feel brave, there's something we could save, there's something we could save,
'Cause it's a good world, yeah it's a good good good good world,
And it's a fine world, yeah it's a fine fine fine fine world,
And I think maybe, if I sing this over and over again,
Like a mantra, it will manifest somehow, 'cause it's a good world,
Yeah it's a good world, it's a good world,
And everybody's saying that time is running out,
And we should build a time machine and clone ourselves when we run out
Of the perfect people that's not you or me... I disagree, I disagree, I disagree,
Everybody's saying that there's no hope on earth
We should build a spaceship and form the next rebirth,
Blast away into the blackness, in search of carbon worth,
Just one leaf of what we have here, already have here, have here, already have here...
'Cause it's a good world, yeah it's a good good good good world,
And I think it's a good world, yeah it's a good good good good world,
Yeah its a fine world, its a fine, fine, fine world
And I think maybe, if we sing this over and over again,
Like a mantra, it will manifest somehow, 'cause it's a good world,
Yeah it's a good world, it's a good world, oh it's a good world, it's a good world...
We said we didn't want the seeds, but they blew in,
We said we didn't want the cards, what you doing?
We said we didn't want the war, that they threw in, that's one for free... two corruptions you get one free.
Get in the van and head for the west,
And I can feel the ocean spray on my vest,
My God it's beautiful, it's the best,
It still amazes me, the whole enormity...
'Cause it's a good world, yeah it's a good good good good world,
And it's a fine world, it's a fine fine fine fine world,
And I think maybe, if we sing this over and over again now,
Like a mantra, it will manifest somehow.
This last one goes for 22 minutes so if you listen to it you're a legend. It's quite chill so maybe go do the dishes or just bimble along on Hive whilst you're listening. I love it - and I love the metaphor of collecting firewood, the idea being that when you need to recharge sometimes you just need to be away collecting your thoughts.
