Goodness me, I nearly forgot my #gardenjournal post for December. I have just been reading the entries and there was only FIVE - which makes my job easier of course, but I am a little sad that December always is too busy for most people to get a post in AND there's been a lot of snow so the last thing people are thinking of is garden updates! Anyway I'll be doing the wrap up in the next 24 hours, so not too late to get your entries in.

A Post Script Before I Start...

Before you get into my post, you'll notice there's only one photo. No, I wasn't taking my 'less than 10 photos' rule too seriously - it's just that I'd written the post, then got off the couch, walked into a sheet of plywood that was in the way (long story) and cut my foot open. There was blood everywhere - so much of it Jamie (who rushed in from the garage at my shout) had to clean it up before doing anything as he didn't want to slip on it. Thus, I'm sitting here with a beer and strict instructions to not get off the couch, so there's no way I can get photos. I did think of cheating and getting old photos of zucchini and so on, but I've already told a few people off on Hive for cheating this week ahah.... so a bowl of rasberries it is.

This isn't my first rodeo - I know the routine. Saline, alcohol wipes, steri strips, gauze, ice lolly, beer. I'm good.

The Update I Wrote Before I Cut My Foot

Would you believe that my zucchinis are almost ready to be eaten? Every year I get suprised how fast they grow. I also have little button squash as well - yum. I love them sauteed and browned with a little preserved lemon, and added to salads.

I've had quite a few bowls of raspberries - yum. They're almost done now sadly.

The grape vine is just so beautiful at this time of year. It shades from the heat of the afternoon sun. I really want the grape to wind all the way around the garden and I suppose it'll get there eventually.

I've fallen in love with sedum and have been putting them in the planter pots. They're pretty hardy in the warmer weather.

The apples, plums, quinces and so on are beginning to fruit - I've been trying to reduce the amount on each branch so they ripen better. I won't be around to harvest them anyway I suppose.

The hugelculture beds seem to be doing well. The logs seem to retain the water so the roots of the veggies are able to suck from them which is super cool. At least that's what I think is happening, otherwise they'd be wilting in the drier weather when I forget to water!

The tomatoes are beginning to show, the garden smells like white sage in the heat, the silverbeet is starting to flower and the end of the purple sprouting broccoli is nigh. I am in love with perpetual spinach.
