It felt like a very confusing process, but was actually very simple. I don't believe there is a single well written guide on how to register when buying from exchanges. Everything sounds mega confusing.
You simply have to send your EOS tokens you bought on an exchange to MyEtherWallet or MetaMask or something.
I used MetaMask, sending my EOS to that address. I then had to add the EOS token so I could see it within MetaMask. I sent 1 EOS to confirm that everything worked.
Getting my EOS to an Ether wallet/MetaMask was easy peasy. Then I just went to EOS.IO, and scrolled around until I found the "Get EOS" pathway to follow. I used the MetaMask path as it is the easiest apparently. All I had to do was follow the instructions, and EOS.IO linked to my MetaMask or something, and everything was easy.
I had to put some Ethereum into my MetaMask to complete the registration. I believe the transaction signaled that everything is complete. I was disappointed at having to use GAS in this process (which turns out to be Ethereum and not a separate entity?). I sold all my Ethereum a long time ago because I do not believe in fees and think GAS is stupid and "Why would I ever want to use a system like that? What does it think it is? A vehicle?".
Well I have used GAS now, and I don't feel dirty because maybe EOS will help kill it.
Thank you for reading, writing this has been therapeutic. I almost had several breakdowns but managed to stay strong.
Here is a picture of my legs to tide you over. I'll be spending the rest of the day recovering from this slight mental stress in the indoor neon night beach.
