The bird held down by fear
Too afraid of the unknown
Of the life's insecurities
Held inside a cage
Afraid to see the world
And so, the bird could only stare
Stare at the wide blue sky
Envious but afraid
Watching at the safety
The safety of its cage
Its wings it dare no spread
Its songs it dare not sing
All because of its fears
The fear of the unknown
Its feathers losing colors
Its voice losing strength
Its heart saddened
Yet the bird refuses fly
For fear held it down
Unable to leave, to escape
Its self-made cage...
“I wish I could build you a cage, little bird, or a beautiful tower, to keep you safe from the corrupt, cynical world. You don’t know how precious it is to be naive and innocent. I only want to protect you, so you can sing and be free like the golden bird you were born to be.”― Rachel Hartman, Tess of the Road
