Sultan Iskandar Muda International Airport, is an airport that serves flights from Banda Aceh City and surrounding areas,
Based on the wikipedia site, Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport was built by the Government of Japan in 1943. At that time, the airport has a runway along 1400 meters and 30 meters wide of the letter T from the southern end extending from east to west.
In 1953 Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport (at that time named Blang Bintang Airport) was reopened by the Government of the Republic of Indonesia for the purpose of landing the plane. The runway only uses a runway from North to North along 1400 meters. The first aircraft to land after reopening was DC-3 Dakota, and a few years later, Convair 240.
In 1968, the airport has expanded the runway to 1,850 meters by 45 meters width, and the apron 90 x 120 meters, so it can accommodate larger aircraft such as the Fokker F28.
In 1993 and 1994, Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport re-developed in connection with the National MTQ held in Banda Aceh, with an expanded runway of 2250 x 45 meters, which can accommodate DC-9 and B-737 aircraft and supported by installation.
