Today I want to share with you one of my catch. As I was walking with the dogs in my village I come across a beautiful Lycodon Laoensis snake also known as Laotian Wolf Snake. Of course, the dogs want to come closer to it and smell it. The night was already down so I was not sure about what kind of snake it was. With the black body and yellow stripes, it can be easily mistaken to be a dangerous Krait (Bungarus fasciatus). So I manage to keep the dogs on one side and give it a closer look and it appears to be a young Laotian Wolf Snake, very common in many parts of South East Asia. It is not a venomous snake but it likes to stand up to be more impressive and get aggressive when it gets annoyed. But there is nothing to fear about that kind of snake. Even venomous snake is not a treat to human, Cobras, Krait and any venomous snake is fear of human proximity so they are moving as fast as they can. I always try to teach peoples here to not kill the snakes and if they need help to remove them they can ask me, as I am used to it. The Laotian Wolf Snake has a beautiful yellow and white pattern and it becomes smaller as it comes closer to the tail. After the snake stands and tried to bite me I keep him excited until he feels kind of dizzy (the more excited a snake is a more easy it become to catch as he feel like drunk in some way) than I catch him slowly and keep it in my hand until I get home. He spend the night in a box and today I take a few picture of it and release him in the jungle. Please do not kill snake they are very useful animals to our ecosystem, do not fear them just give them space to go their way.
