Wow that's a lot to try to deal with! First, human nature never changes, the only thing that really changes is the technology which gives the "masters" better means of control (TV for example) it also provides us with tools to fight them (the internet). Second, you can't understand Adam Smith by reading Wealth of Nations. If you want to understand where he was coming from you have to read Theory of Moral Sentiments. Like our republic, Smith's economic model was designed for a highly moral people. I would also read Thomas Reid, Smith's student and proponent of common sense.
To understand human nature Machiavelli is the best. He says that the masses are lazy and self interested... that's why bread and circuses have worked for 10,000 years. I wrote a piece last week about the war between the producers and the parasites (Obama's army) that's who's looting and rioting. People will do more work getting out of work than they will working. It all boils down to human beings basically suck and thats why the "masters" have been control.
