Sunday, December 26, 2004, at 07:58 and at 8.48 a.m., was a 'pedantry' that would be embedded in the collective memory of not only the people of aceh and Indonesia but also the international community.
We see together that a 'small doomsday' or a 8.9 magnitude tectonic earthquake centered on 149 km south of meulaboh, aceh west, followed by a second earthquake that caused a tsunami 10 meters high.
An earthquake and tsunami in nagroe aceh darusssalam (nad) and part of north Sumatra have already taken a 'toll' that, for a period of 250,000 people. In fact, to illustrate the magnitude of the event, some have speculated that the tsunami and earthquake in aceh are trans-historical events after 3.5 billion years ago, an earthquake that separated the world into several continents as we know it.
The event has generated humanitarian solidarity and willingness, ranging from the local community to the international community in the form of relief and volunteer workers. Aside from the physical response of the flow of aid and volunteers to aceh and sumut and the flurry of emergency response and rehabilitation and reconstruction programs, there isa reflective question, a particularly penetrating question about whether today's disaster was a punishment or a test.
According to the jabariah or fatalistic class, humans and other creatures of the world are, even as puppets without power. It was the Lord who caused all earthly events to be catastrophic. That way, god is described as cruel and vicious, where this view leads us to blame god. Meanwhile, the Canon gave emphasis that man had free will, and the Lord created the world and all it contained was a law of nature. In view of this flow, man has a responsibility to manage the world and all that isin it. And any deviation (such as environmental destruction, excessive natural exploitation, etc) of the divinely appointed corridor, is a denial of his power. In this view, it inevitably leads us to blame the victims, in this regard the victims.
The discussion of the disaster that tended to blame the victim brought consequences to the punishment of the seemingly sinful and unfriday people of hari on his religion, and was, of course, unjust. Wouldn't the Jakarta, bandung or the port, west Java -- just to call the place -- not better than aceh and north Sumatra?
I would argue that the most important thing in the context of aceh is to make disaster the collective study that Japan shows in the face of all of the earthquake and typhoon disasters in the design of cities that make it easy to evacuate in the first place, Home design withstood the earthquake and the orderly and disciplined behavior in daily life before going to work and schools paid attention to how to survive in the event of an earthquake and built an integrated 'early warning system' in antero in countering and tame the earthquake disaster.
The tsunami and earthquake of aceh have left many signs of collective study for those of us left behind beginning how to respond to the volunteers and the international community, the way to coordinate, plan, manage the environment and develop relationships that are egaliter among children and so on. While for those (especially children, women and elderly parents) taken by their owners, the merciful Lord, we believe that they have been saved and delivered by the Lord from having to face a test, as we must face.
