Buenos días para todos. Organizando un poco mis dibujos, encontré un antiguo retrato realizado en el año 2004:
El hombre con la pipa.
Good morning, everyone. While organizing some of my drawings, I found an old portrait done in 2004:
The man with the pipe.
Es un retrato de un hombre que no recuerdo quién era pero creo que lo tomé del periódico nacional. Yo dibujaba personas de revistas, del periódico y de vez en cuando aparecía un modelo.
Por aquellos tiempos, no utilizaba cuadrícula, ni goma moldeable, usaba el dedo y el lápiz más oscuro que utilizaba era un HB2. Los lápices más oscuros que tenía eran unos lápices 2B que solo utilizaba para trabajos creativos y gracias a una amiga que me los cambiaba por lápices HB.
It is a portrait of a man I don’t remember who he was, but I think I took him from the national newspaper. I used to draw people from magazines, from the newspaper, and every now and then a model would appear. Back then, I didn’t use a grid or a kneaded eraser; I used my finger, and the darkest pencil I used was an HB2. The darkest pencils I had were some 2B pencils that I only used for creative work, and thanks to a friend who traded them to me for HB pencils.

El retrato lo comencé estructurando la cabeza humana con un lápiz HB y de forma muy clara, después que tenía toda la fisionomía del modelo bien estructurada, comenzaba a dar claroscuro donde manchaba mucho, después utilizaba el dedo para difuminar algunas partes y para concluir, arriba de esas manchas trazaba líneas para darle volumen. En aquel momento era lo que mis amigos y yo hacíamos. Buenos tiempos aquellos, tiempos de dibujos constantes, durmiendo poco y amaneciendo dibujando.
I began the portrait by structuring the human head with an HB pencil and very clearly; after I had the model’s whole physiognomy well structured, I began to apply chiaroscuro, shading heavily, then I used my finger to blend some parts, and to finish, over those smudges I drew lines to give it volume. At that time, that was what my friends and I did. Good times those, times of constant drawing, sleeping little, and drawing until dawn.
El dibujo me gustaba mucho aunque no me enfoqué en el terminado de la pipa y de la ropa para que fuera un dibujo más relajado y suelto. A pesar de 22 largos años, solo ha perdido valores tonales y no está muy dañado.
I liked the drawing a lot, although I didn’t focus on finishing the pipe and the clothing so that it would be a more relaxed and loose drawing. Despite 22 long years, it has only lost tonal values and is not very damaged.
