How to cultivate a deeper relationship with God and align my desires with His
Cultivating a deeper relationship with God and aligning your desires with His is a lifelong journey of faith and spiritual growth. Here are some practices that can help you in this process:
Regular Prayer:
Set aside dedicated time to communicate with God through prayer. Pour out your heart to Him, express your desires, and seek His guidance. Prayer is a powerful way to deepen your relationship with God and align your desires with His.
Study Scripture:
Engage in regular study and meditation on God's Word, the Bible. It reveals His character, His will, and His desires for us. As you study and reflect on Scripture, you will gain a deeper understanding of who God is and how He desires you to live.
Seek the Holy Spirit's Guidance:
Invite the Holy Spirit to guide and lead you in your daily life. The Holy Spirit is the helper and counselor whom Jesus promised to His followers. Ask the Spirit to align your desires with God's will and rely on His guidance in decision-making.
Surrender and Trust:
Surrender your own will and desires to God, trusting that His plans and purposes are best for your life. Recognize that God's ways are higher than our ways and that He knows what is ultimately best for us. Trust that He will guide you and fulfill the desires of your heart in accordance with His perfect will.
Practice Obedience:
Seek to obey God's commands and live in alignment with His principles. Obedience is an expression of love for God and demonstrates your desire to follow His will. As you obey Him, you will grow closer to Him and experience the blessings that come from living in obedience to His Word.
Engage in Worship:
Worship God with a sincere heart. Offer praise and thanksgiving for who He is and what He has done in your life. Worship helps you focus on God's greatness, fosters gratitude, and cultivates a deeper connection with Him.
Fellowship with Other Believers:
Surround yourself with fellow believers who can encourage and support you in your spiritual journey. Engage in community and participate in activities such as Bible studies, small groups, or church services where you can grow together in your faith.
Remember, developing a deeper relationship with God is a lifelong process. It requires consistent effort, patience, and a genuine desire to know and love Him more. Be open to His leading, continually seek His presence, and trust that He will draw near to you as you draw near to Him (James 4:8).
Too many of us are scared of the word "law," which makes it hard to hear a verse like this. But we must realize that the goal of the New Covenant of grace and the gift of the Spirit is for God's law to be written on our hearts and shown in our lives. God doesn't care if it's written on tablets of stone or not. Jeremiah said there would come a time when God's people would only care about doing God's will. They would have a burning desire to love the things our Father loves and hate the things he hates.
MY PRAYER TONIGHT
Abba I do want to do what you want, Father. I want to make you happy, give you praise, and bring others to you. Give me the spiritual ability to know what you want me to do and the spiritual courage to do it today. I want your goodness and character to fill my heart when Satan tries to get me to not live for you. When I'm wrong or have lost my way, make me feel bad in a gentle way. In Jesus' precious name I pray. Amen.
