While Russia seems stuck firmly in the 20th century bombing the fuck out of its neighbours, China's playing a much quieter, and probably more sensible game.... Instead of betting everything on military muscle, China seems to be taking over the world through economics and technology.....
Quite possibly China’s strategy is based on the basics of old-school statecraft. Take the Confucian tribute system: instead of forcing countries into submission, you pull them in with money and connections. Sun Tzu put it best in The Art of War - real skill is winning without even fighting.
If you watch what’s actually happening, you can spot this strategy in action. The Belt and Road Initiative is a perfect example. China’s pouring cash into roads, ports, and power stations across Asia, Africa, and Latin America. The result? Lots of countries start to see China as a business partner they pretty much can’t do without. It’s not about coercion, rather it's about making cooperation irresistible.
Compare that to the U.S., which leans heavily on its network of military bases around the globe. Both countries want influence, but their toolkits couldn’t be more different.
The Taiwan Test
Nowhere is this power struggle clearer than in Taiwan.
Everyone knows Taiwan is the heart of tech: semiconductors are vital. Without them, iPhones, cars, even advanced weapons don't work.
The common wisdom says, if negotiations over reunification fail, China will eventually invade. However China may be able to avoid this costly mess as it's been pumping money into developing its own chip industry.....
And when it's almost competitive they could just create just a little doubt about Taiwan’s future—maybe the threat of a blockade, maybe something less dramatic—could be enough to shake up world markets and scramble supply chains, all without firing a shot.
Final thoughts...
I think China's got it right, just pump those industries and break dependencies, it's just about keeping ahead of the curve!
