Anyway, what prompted me to create this account and and particularly this post was a random click-bait article I ran across. The click-bait article had something to do with blatantly obvious hints guys were given that a girl liked them but they were oblivious to. This sparked a long forgotten specific memory of a very close female friend I had throughout most of high school, college and beyond (we're still Facebook friends though we haven't seen each other or really talked in many years) and one particular incident (there may have been others) that suggests I may possibly be (or at least have been...no I probably still would be) one such completely oblivious guy. The fact that I would be oblivious to such a thing does not surprise me at all, and in retrospect I can think of at least one other possible instance involving someone else I may post about later.

Anyway, about this particular instance... This friend of mine and I met at a summer day camp at a local community college the summer after my 9th grade year. We ultimately became close friends and remained close throughout high school (she was one year behind me) and college (though we went to different colleges).

This particular instance occurred in probably my second year of college. This was my first year in an apartment as I spent my first year of college in a dorm. At any rate, she had some reason to be in Gainesville (I have no recollection as to why) and she asked if she could spend a couple of days at my place. Obviously I had no problem with this and my roommate didn't mind.

The first night by some mutual understanding we spent the night in my bed, her head at my feet and vice-versa. I didn't sleep well and the next night I volunteered to sleep on the couch.

So should I have interpreted this willingness to sleep in my bed with me as some sort of clue? I admit that at the time I had a huge crush on her (or was deeply in love depending on your perspective I suppose...no doubt I thought I was at times) but I had never acted on it nor really believed the feeling was mutual. In retrospect I don't have any regrets as I greatly value the long friendship that we had (and I like to think still have) and am not really sure that it would have worked out if we had been more than friends. Plus there's the fact that I had my two most significant relationships after this, including a 16+ year marriage and 4 children. She is also married with one child.

This isn't written with thoughts of rekindling some ancient lost or half imagined romance, I'm just honestly curious what others think. How much of an idiot was I at the time? I have half a mind to ask her myself though she might take it the wrong way so I'll pass on that.

I have some thoughts on why certain guys are oblivious to such obvious clues (whether this was one or not) but I'll save that for another post.

By all means post questions and comments. I care about those more than upvotes thought the upvotes are appreciated too. So how about you? Are there any guys (or girls) out there that want to share "romantic" opportunities that, when they reflect back today, passed them by because they were just so damn oblivious at the time?

I searched for the article and couldn't find it again but here are a couple of very similar ones with some of the same stories..

And here's some counterexamples. It's also true that some of the most obvious signs in the world apparently really aren't after all.
