Massive deployment of small modular reactors instead of Russia gas would've prevented Europe from getting into the current pickle in the first place. I think this is something that must be seriously considered. As a stopgap, LNG or gas pipes from Africa may provide a solution.

Die Energiewende is a joke. It's been worked on for two decades and they're talking about banning hot showers in Hanover followed by other cities. Trump of all people warned Germany about over-reliance on Russian gas but he was laughed at. Many others were suspicious of it as well.

Germany is just the sort of major industrial country that needs reliable sources of base load power. Small modular nuclear is key.
