When a waitress asked the driver's license of a young girl who asked to be served, she was horrified when she saw the photograph on the ID card. It was his own image! The waitress had lost her driver's license a month ago and this young woman was using her to "prove" that she was old enough to drink alcohol. They called the police, and the girl was arrested for identity theft. To try to get what he wanted, he pretended to be someone he was not.
There are people who continue to pretend in churches today. Some people present a false facade. They use the correct "Christian" vocabulary, go to church almost every Sunday, and even pray before eating. They pretend that they "have everything under control" in order to obtain the approval of others. But inside they are struggling with brokenness, guilt, doubt, some addiction or some other persistent sin.
God placed us within a body of believers to support one another. Admit that you are not perfect. Then seek the counsel of a brother or sister in Christ who is pious.
