I have had the opportunity to read in depth the book of Daniel during these last weeks and I have taken pleasant surprises. Beyond the background that one can know about Daniel, there are more elements of his temperament and personality that impress me and make me respect and admire him even more. Thinking that being a teenager was able to determine the future life project that would make me love more deeply the adolescents, since even with the world on their backs, they may be able to make radical decisions and sustain them throughout his life. That is admirable.
In the book of Daniel, chapter 1 verse 8, it says the following: "And Daniel purposed in his heart not to defile himself with the portion of the king's food, nor with the wine which he drank; He asked, therefore, the chief of the eunuchs not to be forced to contaminate himself. " I am sure that the word "proposed" is not whimsical, it was not used, "said", "decided", "determined", "resolved" or "defined", the Word of God is clear when it says PROPOSE IN HIS HEART.
Many times this is what fails us, we decide to do things, we determine that we will abandon a bad habit, we say that we will do "X" action and we do not fulfill it, we disappoint ourselves and we no longer have the same initial will to continue. And that is precisely the issue, we do things by will, when we know that it is fickle and sometimes more what hinders than what cooperates. When we determine certain actions or paths to follow in our lives we do not allow "the heart" to participate, thinking that the decision we make must be rational and far from the field of emotions ... but we do the opposite! Involving the heart is what we must do, because only then can the determination we make transcend our will or our desire, we must propose in our hearts what we want to be or do first and from there project our journey and our path to follow.
I am sure that each one of us has made infinite decisions, of those infinite many we have not fulfilled fully and even more we do not take them; the will has failed us, we have feared what we can lose, we have not dared to make the leap because we ignore the consequences, or, we do not want to take them because we are comfortable or comfortable in the position in which we are; However, there is a huge power in making decisions from "propose in our hearts" as Daniel did. Being a teenager he drew a destiny of glory, he was able to reach places of maximum power and be trusted by kings and sons of kings. What he proposed one day in his heart determined the future of his life and of his people. Thank God for Daniel, who as a young man was able to set himself apart to do things God's way, always knowing that he would receive a great reward. Tomorrow, when I am not there, I would also like someone to give thanks for my life, but above all, for having proposed in my heart to follow Christ until the last day of my life. And you, would you like them to give thanks for your life too? Present in your heart today what you need to do and your tomorrow will never be the same again.
