It is not easy to see how Christianity has positively impacted the world. There will always be those who deny the contribution of the church to science and society in aspects such as education, civics, discipline, and order. We will always find whoever denies all the good that the church does to the world, what we can not allow is that the church does not continue to do so.
Christianity upset the ancient world in the time of Jesus, I wonder why it does not remain so? I ask because I do not find the same emphasis in the current church. It seems that we have adapted perfectly to what we consider should be and parsimony has invaded us. The church is very well confined within four walls and that's where it works, but the primitive church not only worked inside, but also outside and so much influence was it that the world came to call it the one that upsets the world.
Two men, I speak of Paul and Silas arrive in a small town of Amphipolis and Apollonia, where they begin to proclaim the gospel, succeeding in reaching Jews and Greeks there, so much influence in that place that those who became followed them and the who did not suffer from envy and sought to persecute them. When I read these passages, and compare them with the church of today, I do not seem to see any kind of relationship, the church remains static before a society that loses itself in perversion, and is comfortable within its walls.
And it is not because the temple is bad, but it seems that what happens there, stays there, because the streets and cities are still the same, little by little accumulate greater degradation and rot. Where are those who upset the world, where are the Pablos and the Silas that with a message managed to impact the ancient world, to the point of being hated by their adversaries in order to defend and spread the truth.
It seems that the church no longer upsets the world, rather it seems that the world upsets the church, the scandals, the abuses, the lies, the deceptions, appear every day as grass of the field. Every day a new theme appears that makes the world speak badly about the church of Christ.
APPLICATION
We need men and women who rise up to upset the apparent peace and passivity of the church, we need beings that illuminate our nations with their light, that wherever they go they bring light, sword and fire, that everyone knows they are there or that they were, that the fire that they ignite does not extinguish until it consumes everything.
We need a different church for this time, the world is lost and we can not feel comfortable with it, we must try to take the gospel to where it has never been taken, we must try to serve as no one has served, and preach where no one has preached. The challenge is posed, you will prefer your comfort or try to upset everything with the truth.
I have already made my choice, I have tried to upset every place I walk, let everyone know that I am a believer, that the word of the Lord be preached with fidelity and love, that almost no one is left without knowing what the bible expresses and not my opinion.
Only men and women with the power of God can upset every place they step on, so we need to consecrate our lives to upset everything.
Let us pray, Lord, make us tools that you can use to upset homes, families, churches and societies that need to be disrupted by your truth, your love and grace, we want to be faithful to you and your call, always trying to upset those with whom we see ourselves, we try and live always, amen.
