And because Jesus was nearing Jerusalem, he told a story to correct the impression that the Kingdom of God would begin right away.
12 "A nobleman living in a certain province was called away to the distant capital of the empire to be crowned king of his province.
13 Before he left he called together ten assistants and gave them each $2,000 to invest while he was gone.
14 But some of his people hated him and sent him their declaration of independence, stating that they had rebelled and would not acknowledge him as their king.
Jesus Christ was referring to Himself in the parable in our opening scripture, and the servants here refer to His followers. These people (the servants) have received various gifts, talents and ministries from Him. He furthermore gave them a charge before He left, saying "occupy till I come" this means to put to work, and another translation says "do business", same applies to us as His followers, patiently waiting for His return, to establish His kingdom.
We have been given excellent resources and gifts to build and expand God's kingdom. The truth is that no one is exempted. If you would search yourself well, you would see you have something you can do better than someone with great ease. This could be something you even did not learn. It is expected of us to make use of these gifts and talents and not to leave it dormant.
