"Motherhood is an awesome experience".
You may have heard this sentence thousand times in your life. It's awesome for sure. But this glorious sentence makes us miss the part that motherhood also comes with many other things.
Our society doesn't talk about lack of sleep of mother, how they have to deal with self-esteem, postpartum depression, and everything. Though this culture is changing, but there are many miles to go on this.
Another thing is, we make this whole thing so glorious that even if a mom talks about how bad they really feel, everyone will start to blame her. Researchers show that it takes four months and 23 days for a new mom to adjust to motherhood. Sounds odd? Yeah, it should sound odd because just after delivery we expect a woman to act like a mom, fill all the responsibilities.
So, is there any scope to vent?
It's difficult for a new mom to express her true feeling. The fear, joy, frustration, anger, anxiety, depression, sleeplessness, hormone flows everything is hard to explain and it's harder to express how a mom truly feels. And in many cases, they can't even say anything bad about their feeling, their true feeling. But venting is necessary, expressing our true feeling is necessary to make the world understand it's hard in every way to adjust.
Vent your true feeling to your friend, to your mom, to your partner; whoever you think will listen carefully and accept your emotions. If there's no one write it down. Never feel guilty that you feel that way.
You know what, every single mother out there feels the same. Motherhood is a mixture of feelings, not just full of joy. But it's true, you will adjust gradually and will start to feel only joy. Before that- vent. Don't hide, feel guilty, don't make your heart full of sorrow.
Maybe no one will understand you but you try to understand yourself.
For me, it was hard, there were only a few who I can express my true emotions without worrying about how if they will approve it or not. I was in depression for like eight months after delivery. Oh, those days seems a nightmare!
That's why I'm talking about venting. Because I learned how necessary and helpful it can be. Also, I believe the more we express our true feeling the better the message will convey that 'it's hard, we need more support, love, and care!'
