A few years ago, I had the chance to work with an International NGO and got the chance to see the life of Refugees very closely. Every time I talked with them, know more about their hardship; one thing always used to come up in my mind and that is the value of Freedom!

Yesterday was our Independence Day, we passed 50 years as an independent nation!

I know, it may seem nothing big to many. But people who know the value of freedom know very well what it means.

We all know there's a huge debate about whether or not we have achieved enough, reach the point where we are supposed to. Yeah, it's a valid debate. But all these remind me of someone I met many years ago; an elderly person, a freedom fighter. He was a friend of my father.

We were talking about our country and he noticed my dilemma, some confusion of a teenager like me about should I feel proud about my country's situation or should I feel ashamed that we are still poor, corrupted and our achievements are nothing huge. What he told me was a life lesson for me. He said, no matter what we achieved, we achieved freedom. This freedom will help us achieve every other thing, just we need to keep following the right path.

The story I told you about the refugees earlier always reminded me of these words.

Red in the middle of green; symbolic to our National flag!

Freedom, this is so much valuable. No matter how our condition is, no matter what country makes unethical influences over us, no matter if we are corrupted, poor and all but we achieved Freedom. We can't and shouldn't misjudge the value of our independence.

We can indeed do better and I believe we should actually. But the filthy politics made us lag behind every time we try to move forward. 50 years is a huge time. But still, it's just 50, there are many more to go...

As a citizen, as a commoner, we should do our best to add some value, the way we can to help improve this nation. Every small thing actually counts, you can start something positive at home, from today. And believe me, if we think these ways we sure can go a long way!

Happy Independence Day, Everyone!
