Would you rather work in a job you totally hate but pays you well or work in a job you love and find inspiring but the pay was low and you had to strictly budget your financial matters. Explain your answers.

At first glance, it didn't seem that this was a difficult question or choice to make. But as I thought through further, I realised it was not so straightforward after all.

And in all honesty, my answer would be neither.

Assuming I couldn't get the best of both worlds, I would have gone for the middle ground, i.e. a job that I don't hate so much, but still pays me enough to live an average lifestyle. Over the years, I gradually realised that many things in life are in the grey zone and we don't always have to choose between black or white.

In this case, I rejected the idea of working in a job that I totally hate because it didn't make sense to me. We only live once in this world, and if we were to spend 5 days a week dragging ourselves to work at a place where we hate so much, it's so detrimental to our well-being. I would rather live a happy life instead of a rich one.

At the same time, I rejected the idea of having a low pay to the extent that I had to strictly budget my financial matters. The unfortunate reality is that we all have financial commitments such as mortgage loans, bills to pay, etc. Even basic necessities such as food and water cost money too. It would be challenging to live a decent lifestyle with a low pay and I don't think I would be happy too.

While pondering a bit deeper, I figured out (at least for me) that it's largely about how important one perceives his or her own happiness over other aspects of life such as job and pay. If it's extremely important (more than pay), then the choice would be a job that one loves. If it's not so important, then one would still be okay to do a job that they hate and probably use the extra income to mitigate some of the unhappiness, perhaps buying something they like.

In conclusion, I guess it's really a matter of preference and there is no right or wrong answer.

Thanks for reading and wishing all a pleasant week ahead! :)

P.S. To satisfy the theme, if I really had to choose between these two options, I would be inclined to go for a job that I love with low pay as I think it's fine to work with a small budget.
