Imagine you had the power to see people's future - not your own - but only the exact moment they would die and how, would you tell people? What possible ramifications do you think there would be either way.
My personal view is that, having a power which most people don't have, is often not a good thing. It might seem attractive or beneficial at the onset, but it only lasts for the short term, unless...
One keeps it a secret and pretends that they do not have that power.
It's like winning a lottery. You might feel eager to share your joy with people, or buy that big house or car that you wanted, but sooner or later, you will see people lining up to ask you for money. Anyway, I digressed.
Back to the prompt, it's really hypothetical but I think I would rather keep this power under wraps.
Because, firstly, nobody would believe me anyway. If someone on the street comes up to you and tell you that you have only 1 week to live, would you believe the person? Likely no. So there's no point sharing "bad news" to people who might think you are "cursing" them to die or something.
Secondly, my power might not be 100% accurate. There is always a risk that my power isn't working 100% and the events could be wrong. While this might seem good in the case where people live longer than expected and didn't die at the moment I thought they would, it might be bad on the flipside. Imagine telling people that they could live until 80, but they actually met with an accident a month later.
Finally, I would worry for my safety. It's a little "selfish" thinking on my part, but if people were to know I had this power, would the authorities do something about it? Would there be a long line of people asking to see me to ask about their lifespan? Being someone who likes to stay low profile and live my own personal life, I am not sure if I would want to trade my privacy and freedom with this unwanted fame and/or popularity. It's worse if people start to think I am some sort of an alien because of my predictive powers. Then I might be captured? Haha who knows. Maybe I am just thinking too much.
All in all, it's really more downsides than upsides. So I would really just keep it a secret - if I really had such a power.
